Gavin's POV
I finished my second cup of coffee, pushing it away and resting a heavy head on my palm. After my nightmare last night I woke up in tears and tried to calm down with trembling hands. I was tempted to run to Nines for comfort but quickly shut the idea down, figuring I shouldn't wake him up just because I was being a baby. Not to mention how weak it made me look. So instead I suffered in silence. Attempts to fall asleep were useless, ending with me eventually giving up and sulking into the kitchen for my signature drink. I've sat at the table all night, the sound of birds starting up their morning song signaling the break of dawn. The song ended on schedule at presumably 8:00. A few moments past with me looking between my two empty cups of coffee for any leftover liquid I missed. My heart abruptly sped up at some noises coming from Nines's bedroom. I relaxed when I came to the realization that it was just Nines getting up for the morning. If I wasn't already awake he was bound to have woken me up when he got himself together. For whatever reason I get the idea to scare him and a grin forms onto my face. I silently slide out my chair and slowly slide my feet along the floor to the kitchen's entrance wall. The shuffling died down and was replaced with soft even footsteps coming down the hall. The tip of Nines's black sock covered foot comes into view and I take it as a good time to go into action. I leap out, raising my arms and screaming, "Rah!" Nines reaction was priceless. His LED spun an alarmed red as he slightly jerked back, lifting his fist in combat position. I double over and crack up. Nines slowly lowered his fist when he quickly became wise to the situation. His face rarely changed from its blank expression like you know so seeing him embarrassed for the first time looked extremely odd yet amusing. It only lasted a few seconds until his face restarted back to normal and he stiffened up to his straight posture."You're never up early. What's the occasion?" I straightened up and only grinned at him. Apparently that was enough to give an answer. "You never went to sleep, did you?"
"Not exactly true. I woke up and never went back to sleep."
"Nighterrors?"
I don't answer, crossing my arms over my chest. Nines's eyes wander behind me and train onto the mugs. He scrolls over and picks one up to peer inside before looking back at me.
"You consumed both of these? Gavin, this is highly unhealthy. The caffeine may raise your blood pressure. It also can increase risk of heart attacks among young adults. Caffeine can cause-"
I wave him away dismissively. "Yeah, yeah. Save me the ramble. You think I haven't heard it before?"
Nines frowns. "Coffee doesn't replace sleep like perfume doesn't replace showers. You need sleep."
"Not anymore." I stretch and lean against the wall, rolling my eyes. "Chill out, I'm fine."
Nines shakes his head, setting the cup back onto the table. "I hope you enjoyed it. You're not doing it anymore."
"What makes you say that? You don't control me," I scoff.
Nines fully turns around, cocking his head to the side. "Is that a bet?"
All types of thoughts run through my head. I could only think of what Nines would make me do. A few sexual thoughts cross my mind and I quickly remove them. A smug smirk runs across Nines's face as if he knew exactly what I was thinking about. Of course he would learn to smirk, how else would he tease me? He approaches me and bends over so we're on the same level, booping me on the nose. "Exactly~. Now what do you want for breakfast?"
I babble in shock as Nines straightens up and begins cooking without me giving an answer. I eventually plop down onto the seat I was sitting down on all night. Nines begins to talk about what we should do today like the moment before never happened. He always did that and I found it to be the most infuriating thing about him. A heavenly smell of whatever Nines was cooking filled the apartment and made my mouth water. He soon presented a plate of two golden waffles with whip cream and blueberries to tip it off in front of me. I instantly dug in while Nines cleaned up the small mess he made and fed the cats. After he sat in the chair across from me with Pumpkin in his lap.
