Chapter Twenty SixLienna
I wanted to throw my arms around his neck; I wanted to hold him, kiss him.
I wanted to put my hands around his neck because he was definitely, insanely stupid for trying to do something like he did.
I wanted to leave Loki and Frigga alone, because she was very deeply affected by what he did. She had things to clear up and say to him just the same as I did. Frigga began to speak to him, but I took no notice.
I was so simply infuriated and infatuated by Loki's very presence that I nearly screamed and threw things and cried.
I was on the brink of another panic. I wanted to disappear. I shouldn't have come to see him so soon. I knew it would be too much.
Yet I still came.
The pain behind my eyes told me that tears were coming. Lienna, you cannot cry. You are strong.
I looked down at my feet, trying to stifle the sobs. This is embarrassing, Lienna. Just leave.
I turned to leave. You'll be fine. Thor doesn't mind if you slip back into his room, Frigga won't mind if you give them space. You can come back later, or wait until he's released.
Suddenly, I felt his arms wrap around me from behind. He rested his head on my shoulder. "Lienna, oh, I've missed you, I couldn't go on much longer, I-"
I pull out of his arms and spin around to face him. His relieved expression turns to one of sadness and regret.
"I was stupid, I was infuriated, I am sorry," He began.
My emotions were ripping into my mind now. Just accept him, give him one moment of peace! Go!
Another side of my mind said No! Turn around like you were about to. Leave!
I was apprehensive, I was ready, I was aching in my heart.
In the heat of passion, I reached forward and kissed him. It caught us both off guard, but soon, Loki relaxed.
When we separated, Loki held me in his arms. "I'm sorry, Lienna. I truly am. I just- I'm not sure why- Oh, just please forgive me!"
I put my finger on his lips to quiet him. He blinked in surprise.
"I don't want to hear any more." I held up the ring on my finger. "As long as this ring is on my finger, I am in love with you. This ring is a promise that one day, you and I are going to get married. That's not a promise I intend to break. I do forgive you, I always will, unless you break our promise. I will always love you."
Besides the promise, I didn't want to speak about what he did, for fear that it would make Loki feel worse than he seemed. I also didn't want to think about Thor's hospitality, because that would only lead to guilt and pain.
Loki looked down, then grasped my arms gently. "Lienna, I do not know what made the fates allow me to have you but I swear you are the most wonderful, beautiful thing to ever happen to me, to the Nine Realms."
"Loki," I replied, feeling my insecurities again. Just when I began to feel strong again, they came back. I couldn't ever escape them, no matter how old or wise I became. They were always there, hiding, waiting to come in moments like these.
Loki took both of my hands. "Don't, Lienna. Don't do this. You're getting better, I can tell. You're engaged to be married. You do not need to worry about what they think. Besides, if anyone dares speak lies about you, they will suffer the wrath of the God of lies."
I grinned, feeling slightly better. "What would I do without you?"
He smiled sheepishly at his feet, something Loki rarely did. "I believe the question is not what you would do without me, but what would I do without you?"
"Silvertongue returns, without skipping a beat," I stated with a smirk. "Maybe he wants to dance?"
Loki grinned slyly, twirling me into his chest. We swayed to a non-existant beat, my skirt billowing out on turns, Loki's feet executing the most intricate of moves.
As we danced, it didn't matter that we were in a room meant for confinement. We were free as long as we were together.
As the night came upon us, it seemed far too quick for either of our liking. It meant I had to leave because the visiting hours were strict and the guards didn't believe in bending the rules, even for the God of mischief.
He held me tightly in his embrace, kissing the top of my head as he often did. "I'm going to miss you, as I always do."
"I already miss you," I whispered in reply.
"You'll be back in my arms before you know it. We're engaged, remember?" Loki chuckled.
I smirked. "How could I forget? Goodnight, Loki. I love you."
"I love myself too," Loki responded. I raised my eyebrows, trying not to laugh. The old, mischievious Loki was returning, and it was something I quite enjoyed. "Oh, alright. I love you too, Lienna."
I kissed him once more, then strode out of the room, feeling better than before, or nearly ever.
