Chapter Twenty EightLienna
Loki and I fell asleep in each other's arms, his magic creating a shield against the snow and wind. I had never felt so calm, so comfortable in my own skin.
I was suddenly aware of his use of magic on me, but only good magic, as far as I could tell. He would rub slow circles with his hand on my back, transferring tranquil thoughts and feelings to me. It meant he was peaceful in my presence, and it meant alot to me.
Somehow we found ourselves inside because of the cold, our bodies entwined to preserve heat, though Loki's body provided very little heat. It was nice, considering I had a tendency to get feverish when I slept with multiple blankets.
On occasion his hands would find their way into my hair, caressing it. A simple gesture, like so many others that I noticed, that I absolutely loved.
This was another reason I could never be with Thor. He was too focused on the big picture and getting to the finish, rather than focusing on moments that mattered like Loki did. Loki made sure that I felt fine before he did anything. He waited for consent, when Thor was unpredictable. Loki was gentle in ways Thor was not. Thor was quick to act, quick to speak, when Loki had the hidden grace of thinking. Thor was smart, but Loki was brilliant.
Thor had his qualities that I couldn't help but fall in love with, but Loki seemed to know my every need, my every want, even things I didn't know myself. He also had the grace of subtlety, which, in my introverted self, I appreciated.
"Are you still awake?" Loki whispered. I could almost hear his smirk.
"Unfortunately, yes."
He turned to face me. "If you can't sleep, there's no use in me sleeping, I'll just keep you cold."
"I quite like the cold," I replied with a giggle. It was true, in some ways. I liked Loki's cold. His was a loving cold, whereas outside may have no mercy on me.
Loki brushed a hair out of my face, hus captivating grin growing. "I hope so. Otherwise we're not getting anywhere. You know, Lienna, you're not pretty."
I was taken aback. I was used to Loki sweetly complimenting me, and quite frankly, this stung. My frown was immediately apparent, and I was afraid tears would come, though this wasn't unlike Loki.
His grin only grew. "Darling, you're striking. Memorable. Flawless. Even intimidating, but in the most breathtaking way. You hold my attention even long after I've lost interest in others."
Inwardly, I sighed with relief. Was what he said true? I took my own features into account. Long, raven black hair that somehow managed to always curl itself, no matter how annoying or impossible, and came down past my ribcage. Cloudy grey eyes that could become charcoal with rage or silver with sadness. Purple rings outlined the bottom of my eyes, a further annoyance, but also somehow made my eyes more apparent. My complexion was pale, maybe even as pale as Loki's.
I was told I was exotic, a gift to behold. That was something I never believed. Maybe it was time to start believing.
"Lost in thought?" Loki asked, shocking me into reality.
"For the longest time, I was convinced I wasn't something special. Perhaps now, I've realized I always was."
He tilted my face up to his. "You are special. Special to me, special to all these Nine Realms. Special to yourself."
Loki kissed me, slowly at first, but then with growing passion. His hands found their way to my hips and pulled me closer to him. The cold between us seemed to disappear, though his skin was still cool to the touch. Loki's fingertips moved away from my hips and ran up and down my back and arms, causing me to shiver. I could feel his smirk on my lips before he kissed me again.
My cheeks burned with a bright red blush, though I was not embarrassed. Perhaps it was the intimacy of the kiss. Perhaps it was the fleeting thought in the back of my head that Thor could never make me feel this way. Fate or not, Loki was mine and I was his.
