You ran as fast as your feet could carry you, stumbling every now and then. Floch was lying, he had to be. You refused to believe it. They weren't dead... they couldn't be... you promised...
"y/n! I don't think you should go in there..." Hange yelled, struggling to keep up with you. You ignored them and kept running. You turned a corner and saw your front door... it was open.
"Rule number one; Never leave the door open. Always have it secured."
That is what he said. That's what your father told you and your brother oh-so-many times. You were standing completely still, simply staring at the open door, when Levi and Hange caught up with you. "... the door... It's supposed to be closed..." Levi heard you whisper. You took a step closer to the entrance. As you entered the house, you felt the way too familiar smell of rotten corpses. No. Turning your head slowly back to Levi, you stared at him with fear and worry. You walked further in, and into the living room.
"I'm... home..." you said, lips trembling and your voice breaking. Hange and Levi followed you into the house. They both stared at the same thing as you. The two rotten corpses laying on the ground. It was safe to say that your parents weren't alive anymore, and by the looks of it, they hadn't been for a long time. You didn't know what to do. Cry? Scream? Move on? Stand there in shock forever? Hange came up to you, "y/n..." they started.
"I promised... I fucking promised...!" You screamed, kicking the wall as hard as you could. it hurt like hell, but that didn't matter. Hange tried comforting you, telling you not to blame yourself. You didn't listen and simply dismissed them and their 'it wasn't your fault.'
You were on your way to leave until the sound of another walker echoed from the kitchen and stopped you. On instinct, you swiftly turned around and pointed your gun at it. You were just about to shoot it... But then you didn't.
You couldn't.
Frozen in place, you stared at it. Your eyes widened at the sight. It wasn't just another walker. Not to you at least. "What are you waiting for, y/n? Shoot the damn thing already." Levi barked as he watched your trembling hands pointing a gun towards it. You turned to look at him, dropped your gun to the ground, and with a voice no louder than a whisper, you stuttered, "I can't."
"y/n, have you gone insane? Pick up that damn gun right now." You still didn't listen to Levi. You couldn't even hear him. The world had gone quiet as you watched the way too familiar walker get closer. Levi, realizing you weren't planning on doing as he said, moved you away from the walker, picked up your gun, and shot it. No hesitation. You couldn't bear the sight of it and turned away from it. You knew very well that walkers weren't human anymore, but that one... to you it still was.
"Y/n... what were you thinking?" Levi asked gently, now seeing the horrified state that you were in and the single tear rolling down your cheek.
"It... was my brother."

"y/n, please talk to us-"
"Shut up." You had been continuously pacing back and forth for ages, not saying a word until now. Your emotions were silently and internally spiraling out of control, not knowing whether to be sad or pissed off. You had always thought you were going to make it back to them. Of course, you did come back. But you didn't come back to what you hoped to come back to.
"Oh, and y/n! If you're going to see your family, I'd better tell you... They're already dead!"
"He did this... I swear he did this." You whispered, clenching your teeth. Quickly storming out of the house, Hange and Levi hesitantly followed after you, not wanting you to do something too stupid and reckless.
"Floch!" You yelled when you got back to his house, seeing a disgusting smirk on his just as disgusting face. "You son of a bitch!" You continued, your voice breaking between words. "You did that, didn't you?!"
"Hm? Oh, that. No, no, you see, that wasn't me at all. Your brother just happened to get bitten and ended up killing your parents. It's not like I was the one who got him bitten by leading a few walkers near him and-" not wanting to listen to the asshole, you swung your fist across his face, knocking the man to the ground in one strike.
"You know, y/n... I'd say I deserved to do that. You did kill my-" yet again you didn't let Floch finish speaking by stepping harshly on his knee and kicking his ribs after that, presumably breaking one or two of them.
"If you think about it... it is your fault, y/n. After all... You're the one who left."
"... stop." You warned him.
"Didn't you promise to come back to them?"
"Be quiet." You warned him again, giving him a kick to the head to make him stop talking.
"I'm just saying, you did a pretty bad job protecting them, considering every one of them ended up dead." Floch continued with his sickening smirk, not paying any mind to your warnings.
"Shut up." He wouldn't stop. No matter how many times you kicked him, stepped on his chest and neck, he wouldn't stop talking.
"Y/n, we both know this is your-"
Then he stopped.
He stopped blaming you. He stopped talking. He stopped staring at you from the ground. He stopped breathing. He stopped living. He was dead. One shot to the head was all it took. You had shot him with no hesitation, frightening Levi and Hange. You continued to stare at Floch's dead body for what felt like hours. With a sigh, you turned around, walking back to your own house. "We should find somewhere to stay the night, it's getting dark. Tomorrow we will look around the town for any leftover supplies." You said, signalling Levi and Hange to follow you. They both followed you, not knowing what else to do.
