The evening was warm, with a slight breeze flowing through the air. The sun was just setting, leaving behind a sky of pink, yellow, and blue. You were sitting on one of the balconies at the lab, wrapped up in a blanket. You stared blankly at the sky as red, glowing clouds hid the remains of the sun. Everything was quiet. How could the world be so nice and peaceful? Had it already forgotten about the haunting tragedy that had occurred only days before?

The world seemed to make time fly so fast whilst you were paralyzed by it. To you, the world ended with Levi. You didn't care for the cure anymore because it couldn't help you. It couldn't help Levi.

The soft wind caught a few strands of your hair which also caught your attention. Just then, Hange came out on the balcony too. You still hadn't spoken a word to them, not to anyone actually.

"It's finished." They said quietly, referring to Levi's grave. Hange was about to leave again but you stopped them. "Hange-" - "I know." They interrupted. No apologies would get Levi back, it was meaningless to even try. You still had other things you had to say to them, though.

"Hange... I'm proud of you. You made a fucking cure to this nightmare." You said, offering them a hesitant smile.

"Thank you, Y/n. I'm proud of you too."

You scoffed. "For what? getting your friend killed?"

"Yeah, something like that."

You laughed together like you once did along with Levi.

Hange smiled and reassured you, "It wasn't your fault. There was nothing that could've been done. He was dead either way."

You strolled carefully through the other gravestones while nearing the newly made one.

Levi A.

It said.

There were flowers in all colors around the headstone. Flowers left by Hange. You sat down, leaning your back against the back of the stone. After a moment of silence, you spoke.

"That was a real dick move you know." You said, imagining the laugh and insult he would've responded with.

You couldn't do much else than sit in silence, remembering the past and longing for the future. You gave the thought of him a smile, one you wished he could return.

A while went by and you stood up. You began to walk away but stopped.

"I'll protect you! I don't care what I have to do. If I have to carry you, I'll carry you. If I have to face those monsters alone then I'll do that. Even if I have to die myself then I'll die because no matter what, I promise you that I will protect you."

"I'm so sorry." You apologized. You took one last glance at what could've been your happy ending, and with a saddened smile, you walked away.
