Act 9: Claire's Letters

Max's P.O.V.

Flashback

"Max," Destiny began, grabbing my wrist before I left. We just finished the lessons that I asked of her. "Be careful."

I looked back at her. Did Destiny know what I was doing?

"Wh-What are you talking about?"

"I know what you found in Claire's room. I'll do my best to cover for you, but you have to ensure you do the right thing."

I nodded and she let go.

End of flashback

This next part can be a song, so pick out a soundtrack that goes and prepare to read like it's a song.

I noticed that the letter was no longer on the nightstand but instead in a drawer... along with plenty other letters... all addressed to me...

I thought hard about what was going on when the letters were written, and all of them opened before my eyes. I'm only going to share a significant few, okay?

Hey Max

It's been a while

I still can't believe that I told you to leave my life

It's probably hurting you just as I feel it as I look at this file. (Oops! Wrong word! But I don't know what goes there so I keep it)

I write this because I wish for your forgiveness

I want to make amends

I want us again

To be friends

I am learning my kanji

So I can write to you without using magic.

I can't stop thinking of that day.

And how our split-up was rather tragic

But I know if we get back on the same ground

It'll be a mutual feeling and choice

That'll be the day I'll be overjoyed

That day when I hear your voice

Max, you are my good luck charm

You gave me the strength to do what I had to

And I was able to return home

And I've been practicing the art, but it's not easy for me alone to do

I wish to see you again

To thank you and to have some more fun

And when that's all said and done

I'll finally have a satisfying sum (Too soon for a nerdy math reference? ...Nah.)

Max, you're nit evil, right?

I'm starting to doubt this time we've had

Do the books know you better than me?

I don't know, but surely you'd tell me if you were bad

You wouldn't disappoint me

But I might be taking you for granted

And what I've seen might just be me having to pay the fee

Destiny's P.O.V.

Claire became paranoid again after realizing Max hadn't returned after telling her about the Just Dance distraction... uh oh...

"Destiny..." I turned band saw the white-haired Serenity looking at me with teary eyes. "What have you done?"

"I simply evened out the playing field. Max asked me to teach him."

"You're ruining my future!"

"Well you ruined mine when you ended my sister before her life could begin!" I yelled.

"...What did you get him to do?"

"I didn't do anything. He simply found Claire's letters."

"What?!"

"He found Claire's letters."

"No!"

"He found Claire's letters."

Now back to the main part of the song.

It's been a time; I'm losing track

When was the last time I saw you?

Life at home isn't what it used to be

I'm getting lonely; surely you feel it too

I want to see you again, but life doesn't have such plans for us

I'm overwhelmed and need to lean on you once more

I will find my way eventually back to you

But when that time comes, please open up that door

There was one more letter I hadn't read when I heard a shriek from the doorway.

"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!?!"

"Claire, I can explain-"

"GET OUT!!!"

I've really ruined everything now, haven't I?

 Claire wrote so many unsent letters...

But what about that conflict between Destiny and MiniSere?

Will we ever know more?
