Max's P.O.V.
"I can help you. I mean, I've been trying to help you since last year, but you couldn't seem to hear me."
"What do you want? Who are you?" She then morphed into a girl about my height.
"You can call me Hope." She then morphed into a spiral-y thing and circled around me. Normally, in this situation, I would panic and fight, but there is this urge in me to listen to her and be calm.
"Why are you her?" I asked her.
"You called me. I can bring you back together with She whom you desire."
"Really?" This seems a little too good to be true. She can bring Claire back to us? To me?
"But of coursssse." Part of her morphed into a snake as she spoke that. "There'ssss jussst one thing I need from you..."
"What would that be?"
"A very sssspecial part of your sssssoul..."
RED FLAG! SNAP OUT OF IT, MAX! DO YOU EVEN REALIZE WHAT YOU'RE DOING? LINK BACK TO YOUR BRAIN AND THINK! THINK, MAN!!!
"You can... bring Claire back?"
"Yessss..." she hissed in my ear. I then, for some reason, thought about the whole shoulder angel thing.
"She can bring Claire back!" the shoulder demon began. "Isn't that what you've wanted since, what, 15 chapters ago?"
"Chapter?" I asked him.
"Never mind that. Fact is, she is offering the one thing that has held lasting meaning in your life! Take her up on the offer!"
"But at what cost?" my shoulder angel asked, appearing. "Don't you think this is suspicious? His random talking shadow is telling you she can bring back Claire, but how would she know your dilemma unless she were a foe trying to manipulate you?"
"Well Serenity knows, doesn't she? And she's a friend." Me and my shoulder angel looked at him like he was crazy.
"What?! For how long?!"
"Doesn't matter. Fact is, this is an opportunity to make up for your mistakes. You want forgiveness from everyone, don't you?"
Yes but-"
"What if Claire doesn't want to come home?" the angel asked. "Don't you seek her happiness first and foremost?"
"I have a limited amount of time left to be here, Maxwell," her voice, once again soothing, said to me.
"I..." I knew I wasn't in control anymore. I've known since she appeared. I don't have a choice. "I'll do it."
"Stay still." Those were the final words I heard before she went right through me. I've felt a similar pain before... when I was cut with the Soul Splicer. But this pain... is far worse.
It it like I will never be whole again. No matter what.
Next thing I knew, MiniSere was shaking me.
"MAX!"
"Mini...Sere...?"
"This scary thing happened and now the moon is blocking the sun!"
"Must be an eclipse or something..."
"It's been like this for two hours!"
