I walk into lunch searching for Luke, he gave me that strange look earlier when I was talking to Eli and I want to know whats going on in that blonde  head of his. "Hey have you seen Luke?" I am standing beside Ashton at our normal table but Luke is nowhere to be seen. "Yeah looks like he got a new set of friends." I follow Ashton's gaze towards a table in the corner.

Sloane was sitting next to Luke with her arm snaked around his left arm. She kept looking at him as she talked to her group if friends but he just kept starring out the window that looked out onto the parking lot. "Why is he sitting over there?" I could feel the familiar feeling of jealously start to bubble in my stomach. "I'm not really sure, I think him and Sloane might be an item but its not official." Luke looked bored out if his mind while he looked around the buzzing cafeteria. His blue eyes found me and they turned cold as he glared at me. What had I done that was so bad? "Do you know why he is acting like this?" I look at Ashton waiting for a response. "I think he might be jealous about Eli."

"Why would he be jealous? He has Sloane." I look back towards Luke and his "friends". What I saw made me want to cry and also punch someone in the face. The blonde hair boy was playing throat hockey with Sloane. He ran his fingers through her hair as she kissed him back. With in a second I was over at their table tapping Lukes shoulder. "Can I have a word with you." He shook his head between his heavy breaths and got up to follow me out into the hallway of lockers. As I walked I began to think of what I might say to him. I can't technically be mad, this is what I wanted. For him to find a normal girl and not be hurt by me. "What do you need?" His words were laced with hate. "For one, why are you being so mean to me. And secondly are you trying to make me jealous?" I locked eyes with him as we had a silent stare down. "I am not being mean."

"Yes you are. You keep giving me strange looks and you moved tables." I wanted to stay away from Luke but that didn't mean I didn't want to be friends. As I talked I let my hurt seep through my voice. Lukes eyes softened as he heard how hurt I was. "I am sorry, I just... I can't..." He ran his finger through his hair as he let out a loud grunt. "I like you and I know I have only just met you but its true. Plus your going out with Eli and your going to get hurt." I could feel my eyes fill with tears. "The only one that will get hurt in this situation is you. I have a past and I know that one day it will come back and something might happen to me." I could feel the urge to take pills everyday and my will was slowly disolving with each passing minute. "I don't want anyone to get hurt if I can help it, I feel like its my responsibility to protect as many people as I can." One, single tear fell down my cheek. I looked towards the white tiled flooring. "Ainsley, I don't care if I get hurt. Isn't that what love is about?" I could hear his feet against the floor as he walked closer towards me. Soon he was right in front of me with his hand on my cheek. As he wiped away my tear he tilted my head up to look at him. The familiar need to kiss him came over me as he looked down at my pink lips. Luke slowly leaned in towards me to seal our mouths together. This was it, I was going to kiss him...

"I'm sorry...I can't." At the last second I turned my face so that he kissed my cheek. Run was the only thing I could think of so I ran straight towards the doors that lead to the parking lot.

I burst through the doors and stumble down the steps. My breathing wont seem to slow down and my vision is still blurry from the tears. This is for the best is what I keep telling myself. I grab the railing that leads down the stairs and slowly lower myself to a sitting position. By now I have calmed my breathing and the tears have stopped coming. "Are you okay?" I look up to see Eli standing above me with a look of concern. I hadn't even seen him coming towards me. "Now isn't a good time." I wrap my arms around my knees and pull them into my chest. "Oh, so its that kind of thing." He sits down beside me and looks out to the rows of cars in front of us. "Sometimes when I have a bad day I like a little company." He turns toward me and stares with his emerald green eyes. "Do you wanna get out of here?" He jerks his head in the direction of what I assume is his car. "I'm not sure that's a good idea." This is what I had wanted but now that it was here I wasn't sure anymore. Eli stood up and held his hand out to me. His pale skin shined in the bright sun light as I looked up at him. "I guess it couldn't hurt..." I heard a yell from inside the school, it sounded like Ashton. "It sounds like you better hurry." I could make out that Ashton was yelling my name the closer he got to the doors. I reached up to take Eli's hand and we ran to his black Jeep. He held the door open for me and as soon as he closed it he ran to the drivers seat. I didn't want to deal with Ashton trying to convince me to calm down and following me around like a puppy because he thought I would take some pills. I needed some space and to collect my thoughts. "You ready?" I nodded quickly as Eli started the vehicle and pulled out of the parking lot. Right as we turned the corner I saw Ashton charge out of the school with Luke not to far behind. Luke must have told him I ran out after we talked.

When he saw me riding away in Eli's car he gripped his hair with both hands and kicked a random car. I hated to see him like this but I can't deal with everyone right now. "So my place?" I glanced over at the driver and saw a smug smile on his face. "Sounds great." I replied with a small smile.
