Me and Luke waved to Michael and Calum as they drove off into the night. "Well, that was an interesting night." It was now 4 o'clock in the morning and I would have to be up in 3 hours for school. "What are you going to do about your motorcycle?" Luke ran his hand through his hair as he looked the ground, obviously thinking. "I will see if Michael will give me a ride after school tomorrow." I shook my head in agreement as I rubbed my hands up and down my arms in an attempt to block out the cold night air. "I guess I should probably get home." "Yeah, you have a big first day tomorrow." I jokingly shoved Lukes arm as we laughed to each other. "Goodnight Luke." "Goodnight Ainsley." Luke walked backwards a couple of steps before turning around and heading home. I stared at the boy walking away thinking of how far we have come since Friday afternoon. I don't know when it happened but I let him in and I don't know how I feel about that. I haven't been close to anyone beside Ashton and my Mom after my dad passed away and now here is this blonde boy that has found his way into my little world but all I can think is I don't want him to get hurt if I start to slip again. This will have to be a strictly friend relationship from now on so that no one gets hurt...

I barely slept the couple hours before I had to get up for school. My body was buzzing with energy and my head had a million thoughts but as I looked at the bags under my eyes at 7 the next morning all I had was one thought. Sleep. That and the fact that the thing staring back at me in the mirror was not me. My eyes had more bags under them then my last shopping trip, my skin was the color of ash and my hair looked as if a bird had tried to make it a home. This was going to take a lot of time so thankfully first period was only physical education and it wouldn't hurt if I skipped it. Usually I would skip the whole day but Luke would need a friend on his first day of hell. I mean the other classmates aren't going to bully you in front of your face but its what is said when your not around that gets people talking. For example I pass out one time from lack of eating but no one knew that but me- and Ashton- so everyone had a million rumors about my condition and how my parents never fed me and I lived in the basement. I will give them credit that they were creative but they had no idea what I had went through and to be honest, it pushed me a little closer to the edge.

I grabbed my phone and shot Luke a text telling him good morning and then proceeded to plug in my curling iron. I hop into the shower while the metal tube heated up and rinsed last nights events away. It was when I had started rinsing the conditioner out of my hair that I remembered my new promise to myself last night. I had to stay away from Luke so that I didn't pull anyone down with me. It shouldnt be that hard, its not like I haven't been friends with a hot guy before and plus he probably doesn't even think im cute.

The cold floor made me let out a little yelp as I jumped from one foot to the other in till I made it to the rug by my sink. My purple towel clung to my still wet body as I shook out my damp hair and began drying it with my blow dryer. The warm air sent chills through out my body and made goose bumps rise on my newly shaven legs. After drying my hair I went and picked out my outfit for the long day ahead of me. I decided on a denim long sleeve shirt, white jeans and brown combat boots. To change up my usual shoes I put dark red ribbons into laces and put on a matching scarf. After curling my hair I brushed my teeth and moved onto my make up, I put on brown eye shadow and winged my black eyeliner. As a second thought I added some dark red lipstick to match my shoe laces and scarf.

When I walk out the door I realize Luke still hasn't responded to my message, so after locking the door I grabbed my phone from my back pocket and looked to see if he had read the message yet but it was still unread. Maybe he was just busy getting ready and hasn't had time to look at his phone. I try to convince myself as I start my long walk to school.

When I finally get there after the 20 minute walk I see Luke sitting with Ashton on the stairs to the school. Ashton looks up from their conversation as I approach the two boys. "Hey, wow you look great today." "Thank you Ashton." I give them both a hug and I can feel the surrounding girls sending me hate glares. They are probably jealous of me hanging out with the hot new guy. Did I really just think that? I mentally remake me promise to myself and head with them into school.

Luke wasn't in any of my classes but I when I saw him around school we would stop and talk about his day so far. When I approached my usual table at lunch a red headed girl was sitting next to Luke while Ashton was across from them. The girl was giggling at something Luke had said when I reached the table. "Oh Luke, where did you learn all these jokes?" She rested her had on his arm while she spoke. I stood in front of the spot next to Ash as I looked between the girl and Luke. She was obviously flirting with him but by the look on Luke's face he had no clue. "Uh hey guys, who is this?" All eyes looked to me. "Oh hey Ainsley, This is Sloane. We have a lot of classes together and she has been showing me around." Luke looked to her with a warm smile and I couldn't help but feel jealousy grow in the pit of my stomach. As I sat down I heard Ashton finally speak from next to me. "So im having a birthday party on Saturday since im turning 18." "I almost forgot it was your birthday." Ashton pushed me with his shoulder. "Some best friend you are." All of us laughed at the table as we continued eating our questionable meat from the lunch line. "Yeah, im requiring everyone to bring dates." My heartbeat started racing at the thought of having to ask someone out. I have always had anxiety toward social situations and now he was asking me to do exactly that. As if reading my mind Ashton read my mind he put his arm my shoulder and said. "Don't worry Ains, Im sure you will figure something out." He winked at me he got up to throw away his barely touched slop. "Ainsley would you-" "Hey Luke, would you like to go with me?" Luke was cut off by the ginger sitting across from me. Luke seemed like he about to ask me to the party and I could feel the jealousy build in my stomach. I could picture myself punching the girl in the face but truth was that I knew that this was right that he got a girl that wasn't messed up. Luke looked between us then slowly sputtered out. "I...I...would love too." He put on his best smile but I could tell that he wanted to say no. It eased my jealousy to know he didnt want to go with her but I was still mad that he was.

Sloane began talking about the details of picking her up on Saturday as I got up and left the table. When I reached the trash can I heard the sound of a chair scotching back on the tile. "Im sorry about that." Luke was behind me gesturing towards Sloane. "No its fine. We should probably just stay friends anyways." "Uh okay, If that is what you want." Hurt flashed across his eyes and I wanted to take back everything I had just said. "And plus Sloane is really pretty and nice, you deserve someone like that." I was saying it to myself and him so that I could convince myself too. "Yeah she is kind of pretty. Plus she laughs at all my jokes." Luke was brightening up as he warmed to the thought of being with her but I was becoming more depressed by the minute. "I guess I will see you after school." "Yeah, see you then." I walked out of the cafeteria but not to my next class, towards the front doors. I wanted to be home and in my bed. The sad thing is that the only thing that could cheer me up... I had just pushed into the arms of another girl.
