I scribble down my answer to my Monday warm up in class. Algebra has always been easy for me so the warm ups only take me five minutes.
So far no one has approached me about my bruises but its only first period and there is seven more to go. I wish they would just go away already, not even my make up could cover them. Luke had told me they looked fine but I think my new boyfriend may be a little biased.
My cheek rested against my folded arms that lay on the desk. The trees outside the windows had finally lost all of their leaves but the orange and yellows still littered the ground. This time of year was always my favorite because it reminded me of the times me and my father used to go apple picking.
I close my eyes and begin to settle in for a short nap, my fellow classmates won't be done for another 20 minutes so I have time.
"Good morning class." I listen to the other students say good morning back to Mr.Kegan. "It is my pleasure to introduce to you our new student-" "AINSLEY!" I slam my plams on the desk as I sit up in surprise. With wide eyes I realize who had called my name. "Michael, I didn't know you started school this week." I wrap my arms around him in a hug and he lifts me off the ground. "I told Luke to keep it a surprise."
"Excuse me, I hate to break up the reunion but not everyone knows Michael. " my algebra teacher gives me a death glare as he leans against his wood desk. "Of course." He waits in till I have taken my seat again before talking. "Anyways, this is Michael Clifford and he will be with us for the rest of the year. Please take a seat Michael." Before Mr. Kegan can finish his sentence, the red haired boy slides into the seat next to me and we turn towards each other.
"So is Calum here too?"
"Yeah, he will be at lunch with us." I nod my head but notice Michael staring at my bruises cheek bone. "Is it that bad?"
Once he realizes he was staring he shakes his head no so fast that it gives me a headache just watching. "No, no they are barely noticeable."
"How did you find out?"
"I hate to worry you but everyone is talking about it." I lean down and rest my head on the desk. "This is just great." Michael pats my back and then unzips his solid black backpack. "If anyone tries to mess with you I already have strict instructions from Luke to put them in there place. So does Ashton and Calum." I smile at the thought of Luke looking out for me but then again, I can handle myself. I don't need to be protected like I'm fragile.....
Well I guess I could be considered fragile.
And Luke was just trying to be nice.
I notice Michael looking at me. "What?" I cross my arms over my chest in a defensive stance. He squints his eyes as he analyzes my face. "Did you know you get a wrinkle between your eyes when you think?" I playfully punch him in the arm as we both laugh. "Just shut up and do your work new kid."

Luke sat with his arm wrapped around me as we watched Michael and Calum try and throw grapes into each others mouths. Ashton sat on the other side of me and looked down at his phone.  "You have to angle left more Calum." "Shit." Calum said the same cuss word every time he missed the target.
We all sat at the table in the right corner near the windows. The other students sat with their groups of friends around the cafeteria eating their food. The day was almost over and we only had three more classes to go.
I could feel Luke's grip tighten on my shoulder and I shifted my gaze towards him. He was looking across the room at someone in the lunch line. "What's wrong?"
"Just some kids talking." I look to where he was looking and see the jocks whispering about something. They all break out in laughter when they see me watching. "What are they saying?" Luke looks down at me and shakes his head. "It's nothing." There is a long pause before I hear loud laughing from two tables over. Luke clamps his eyes shut and starts breathing heavy. "Do you want us to do something?" I look up to see all three boys looking over there. "Do you hear them too?" They shake their heads yes and that's when I realize they're talking about me.
"Its me isn't it." Everyone looks to me with sympathy in their eyes. "Oh god, what could they be talking about?" Calum is the first to speak. "Oh you don't want to know." Michael slaps him on the back of the head. "Shut up boy."
I shake my head as tears brim my eyes. " I have to go." I grab my backpack and stand up. I hear Luke get up to follow me but abruptly stops. When I turn to see him its to late. Luke turns and punch's the football player right in the face. After three times Michael, Calum and Ashton stand up to pull him back. Once off Luke storms out of the cafeteria with his three friend close behind.
I couldn't help but stand in shock as the jock tried to stop the bleeding in his nose. Soon I came to my senses and ran after the boys. They all stood in the hallway as Luke paced back and forth. "I should go back in and do more damage."  Ash is the first to talk. "No man. You will probably get in trouble for this, no need to make it worse." They nod in agreement but stop when they see me approach. "I am so sorry Ainsley. He just made me so mad." Luke walked over and gave me a hug. "Its okay. What did he say anyways?" He pulled away and looked into my eyes. "He kept saying you were a slut because first you were with Eli then the rapist and now me. He didn't even know that the guy tried to rape you. He just assumed it was your choice."
"Oh..." I take a deep breathe while processing my thoughts. "Its okay, I'm used to people talking about me." I shrug my shoulders and pretend like I'm not hurting but I am and I can tell the others don't buy it by the way they are looking at me. "I um.. I'm going to go to the bathroom." They all nod as I slowly walk the three feet to the restroom. Once the door is closed I slide down the door and let the tears fall.
