April's P.O.V
Henrietta Harrison!
That's the part I'm auditioning for? I really didn't have anything in mind"Excuse me? Did you say Romeo?" I ask in disbelief
"Yes Ms." The Director says "This is all short notice, I'm sorry"
"N- No. There's no problem" I gulp "Please"
I do need this job.
I'm not staying idly at home for one more Week"Okay then.. Read your lines" He gestures
"My lines- Right" I glance through my script.
Those are a lot of lines
Am I supposed to memorize all of this?
"Well, if it's possible. But most actors improvise a little when they don't remember exactly what their line is" The director tells me and I blink twice
I didn't realize I had asked that out loud.
But improvise?
I had always wondered how they make subtitles- From their lines?
Then how do the actors say every single thing as in the subtitle?Do they really memorize everything?
Or is there someone always holding out their lines for them?
No. How can that be when they're not always looking in one particular place?"Ready?"
"Yes, I'm ready" -and thankful that we're having private auditions.
It's just Mars, Alya, Matthew, the casting directors and I.The Next Now centers on a certain group of students of a High School. Ensemble casts.
But from Henrietta's pov; the main focuses are on Romeo, Jay, Julianna, London, etc.
A guy is here to read the lines with me as Romeo. Mars is acting the part of Henrietta's best friend; Jay
Henrietta is a bit new to the School and doesn't really have much friends. Her best friend, unlike her, is really popular.Jay and Romeo don't get along quite well.
Jay is on the Basketball team and Romeo is on the Foottball team.Top tips.
"Talk to me? Why would he want to do that? And why would he ask you to do it?" I read from my script
"C'mon.. I don't know" Mars reads "But it better be cool, let's just go"
In this part he's going to take my hand but still stand further away from me as possible, and take me with him to the Cafeteria entrance when I spot Romeo coming
"Jay, I- I need to use the restroom" I read, feigning fear
"What? Now?"
"Yes. It's urgent" I say.
This part, he is to drop his hands quickly in disgust
"Go!" He feigns disgust and I'm to hurry off and hide somewhere to eavesdrop a little as Romeo walks down to him
"Weren't you with Henrietta a second ago?" The guy reading Romeo's lines reads
"Yeah.. She had to do something quickly" Mars reads
"Oh.. Did you tell her?" The fake Romeo asks
"Yeah" Mars reads "Look, I've gotta go right now" He tells the Romeo guy "And you're not to disturb Henrietta, okay?" He says sternly
"Disturb?" Fake Romeo laughs "What?"
"Cut!" The director yells "That was excellent"
