Searching bodies and crevices, Ian and Luna scavenged for anything mere useful. It just now became apparent how things escalated in matter of days.
"I see something Ian. There's more to this place." Another light. As they walked Luna sparked a conversation. "Hey, I didn't know you had a thing for Kia" she blushed. "Uh what?- Oh it's nothing" He nodded without assurance. "I just wanted to tell you something before- y'know everything happened. I know you didn't know me well before and everything but when I saw you I kinda had a--" "The lights getting brighter! It's pointing at something.. a book?" Luna looked at the floor.
There it laid a leather covered, dusty but refurbished book with nothing illustrated but the title "The Archives" in golden bold letters. It rested in the middle of a cavern, on flat surfaced rock with spotlights point at it. Figures of four statues were carved around with different hand signals. Before Ian could break it open, the pages flew back with a strong wind. In a low murmur voices called out, "Look deep into your past, to find the answers to tomorrow" "Huh..?" he groaned ignorantly. Another louder, annoyed voice spoke, "Just look inside.." "Oh okay" Both stood relatively close but enough to peer inside what were initially blank pages. Then images fades into existence, ones that made Ian squint to make out a family. Luna was looking down at a man, her father, with a woman on the floor being held. She lay motionless in a room emptied by thieves. She was shot. In another room a baby was crying loudly and violently. Luna's mouth opened wide until she looked away, panting. Meanwhile Ian stared a thousand miles in. It was his mother in a hospital bed crying. Beside her was the father and a little boy. Him.
Both parents held each other sobbing, while Ian sat by the bed looking down at his truck, without a word. The mother's baby, Ian's sister, could not make it to term. They lost her while trying to be resuscitated. By then Ian had ran out the room feeling all kinds of emotions but comfort. He didn't have any other siblings nor planned to, but being an only child wasn't to his liking either. He wanted to share his family with someone.
Until then, the pages turned blank, and the book closed itself.
Ian looked up into the distance. "I need back for Kia. For all of them. We need to stop whatever came for us."
"But.. how can we do that? We're about six/seven against everything in a free for all.."
"I just want to get our people out. Then after that I don't care" He turned back to the opening when something started to crumble. Behind them a doorway broke from the rock, revealing someone old but familiar. It was that stupid scientist that started this all. "I see you found The Archives. It gives knowledge for its own sake, but you see humanity finds its way to manipulate it. Now its been kept here for millennia, captured by this spaces station"
"What do you want?" Luna spoke out
"I called out to you that time because all of you have an inner calling to do good. You must be the rare few to save humankind. The government as we know it has been far too underground for any citizen to know its truth. It is up to you, Order, to rescue and start anew. Take this," he tossed a bag, glowing with green. "Those open portals. Just think in your mind where you want to go" Suddenly, the ground began to shake, and shouting came from behind the scientist. They called out to him. "You must hurry, now!" He turned back with his hands up. 3 soldiers arrested him while more looked at Luna and Ian. "Intruders!" one called out "Hands up!"
Ian kicked beside him a pile of rock at them, plowing them into a pile. "Let's go!" he called out to Luna. Both ran under rain of bullets. They got to the opening they initially came out of. It was covered in rocks, so he frantically swept them aside. The footsteps grew louder and ran across the cave in marches. The vent seemed smaller in retrospect, having both crawl one at a time. "Go Luna!" She pushed herself through the vent quickly. Bullets showered once again, leaving Ian instinctively to duck. It was his turn to go next. He pushed himself in halfway when something pierced his calf. He cried out in agony, "This hurts way more than it looks in movies!" Luna looked back and cried out to Ian. "Take my hand!" He forced himself to turn back and kick the side with his other leg. This caused the cave wall to collapse, closing his way back. "This hurts... I need help..!" Luna took off her scarf that covered her head. Underneath flowed long soft hair down to her shoulder.
"Wrap this around your leg. It looks like it went through, but just keep pressure" She said assertively. They both dragged Ian's weight down the vent. "I guess all that muscle power put on a few more pounds" She panted. "I'm not fat!" He denied. "It feels like you are..!"
Once they reached the end, Ian punched out the opening out. The small door echoed metallically as it slid across the room. Luna helped Ian up and under his shoulder for support. She didn't seem to mind her height compared to his. "No one's here. Look at the opened cabinets. They left" Ian grew even more worried but clenched under his pain. "We have to keep moving. I need to find my team"
"Not now, I have to patch you up. Let me see if there's anything around here" Luna interjected.  "I'll try to look for something close by" Every room had a glass wall, easy to peer in.
"No don't go out there" Ian said quietly "We can't be sure we're alone"
"I'll be fine" she said and left.
He sat leaning by the cabinet across the door but behind a desk in the middle. His mind heard a faint voice resembling Maci. It could have been that she was calling out. It faded away. Numerous moments went by until Ian's eyelids grew heavy. As they closed gently, they were immediately disrupted by a blood curdling scream, passing down every hall instantly. "Luna!" He cried out, but no answer. He laid flat and dragged himself across the floor out.
