A Country Divided

Ian's PoV

It seemed like we all reached the house, but before we were able to get back in, they surrounded us. Each of these clones had no expression, as if they were just robots. Then, they all spoke at once, "Come with us, immediately. You must speak to the highest in command." I didn't know who to look at, but I took a minute, stumbling over words. "A-and who would that be?" "The President of the United States." They said back. We felt it easier to lower our guard when Jason said, "Wow, look at us meeting the actual President, at least we're getting recognized.." (BEFORE ANYTHING, THIS IS NOT GOING FOR ANYONE REAL. im not going for any president in particular, this is an alternate timeline.) I shook my head, "I still don't like this" I said quietly, "But we have no other choice.. Alright let's go." A few of us had to hold on to clone me's who could fly, including Kianna. I could've taken her but it's whatever. It took me very little to notice the setting of this entire place with buildings and roads overcome with nature's grasp. Wildlife from the past existed as if they never went extinct, all a bunch of names that only Jason could figure out. There were even those flying dinosaurs (wrong, Ian) in the distance, and they seemed as big as me. Statues and monuments were crumbled or covered in moss and bugs. Looking down still, I saw Jason and his own clones racing off way ahead of us. The sky looked as if it could've been more blue, but this star that I heard was going to go off helped give it this reddish stain. It all felt too unusual until we discovered what had actually happened. Reaching what seemed to be the edge was a thick metal wall with some light force field coming off at the top. I even saw one of those birds fly and smack into it. We were actually a good distance below the actual surface, which made me think what made a giant crater into where we were living. The wall seemed to stretch for miles, going out of visibility. The clones landed us into a checkpoint, or a guard post that hosted a gateway between two worlds. Inside were screens that resembled cameras pointing just outside of both sides. Then we saw the map. It was even the 50 states. The whole thing was opened and split in half. Whatever happened didn't break us if there's still a president. 

Eventually, we got passed and further to the oval office. The clones surrounded the back like guards and stood like statues. Other people who looked like attorneys stood by, and the lady stood up and smiled. "Truly fancy seeing you all here. Please sit. What is it that you all go by again?" She then poured herself some drink. Jason was the first to sit down and say: "Well ma'am, we usually go by the Order. But if you want to know our names, I'm Jas-" "Oh, I know who all of you are, and it's an honor. How you saved those people up in space, truly STELLAR work!" She snorted laughing. I didn't want to wait any longer, "Mrs. President, can you tell us what's happening here? When we left, we kinda forgot how time would fly down here." Her laughter died down and she cleared her throat still with a grin. "Ah yes, truly everything is fine and going to plan. Order, you fought Cora, the one who took over the ship's command and turned it against you, if you didn't realize. At one point, she took her last turn and crumbled our country out of spite. Just imagine the largest scaled earthquake on the surface. However, It's in our best interest to stay resilient and on mission, which as you know is to say goodbye to humanity's first home. So, we decided to put a band-aid over this scar and launch the planet's history fair in it as our way of tribute as you may have seen so far. All this thanks to our latest and greatest technology." She paused briefly, "Unfortunately, when you heroes landed, it was within its territory, a place where its inhabitants do not take government lightly." I spoke out, "So, the people inside think you destroyed their homes and made it a zoo?" "I suppose you may put it that way. But the option is always there for them to join us on our journey to Kepler, the new Earth." That didn't explain everything for me. "So.. what about the things behind us?" Her eyes widened a little, "Yes, as you can see, we took a particular interest in you and your power's potential. We had one of these scientists... inform us that this bug collectively chose you all to harness its strengths. With a little DNA sampling, we did a little experimenting and made ourselves some clones." She chuckled a bit more. The last time I've seen him was at that cave. They took him away and that was the last time I saw him. She then interrupted my thoughts again. "You boys and girls must be famished from all that superhero stuff." She said almost condescendingly, "We would like to reward you with a buffet downstairs. Then we should talk business right after. Lee, would you mind?" A man beside her in shades and a suit nodded and went to open the door for us. We got up and started to leave while the President waved and was still smiling. As soon as we got down, you wouldn't believe the food ther-

As plates stacked and chicken bones piled, Ian finally rested his head on his hand, picking at his chocolate cake with his fork. Kianna took note of him contemplating and sat down next to him with her own bowl of ice cream. "You okay?" He put his fork down and spoke quieter than her, "Y-yea I'm fine just.. a lot happening." "Hey, everything's okay. We're surprisingly back home and we can just hang back a little to y'know, process." "I really don't know who to trust around here, and being a leader is something I just don't think I'm cut out for. These people are too nice. Something's off." Kianna still shook it off and replied, "Don't be stupid, we're just getting praise finally for practically being true heroes." "Sure, but why would they want to capture those people anyways?" "No clue, but I know one thing, this ice cream smacks," Ian eyed her bowl at the corner of his eye while looking down. "I'll trade you this cake for some of that ice cream."
