Prince Cassius throws open the doors to the armory and glances around the room. I feel myself scowl at his appearance before I turn back to start hanging the swords back up. Gavril told both of us to polish and rehang all of the swords. Eva shakes her head laughing as I move up the step ladder. "Youngling," Prince Cassius says from behind me.
"How may I assist you today your highness?" I ask not turning around. I focus more on trying to not drop the sword in my hands. I set my jaw not understanding why his mere presence annoys me.
I hear him clear his throat obviously not like that my full attention isn't on him. "You and Eva have to go clean the hall leading to the throne room," he smugly says.
I bite back my groan before going back down the ladder and turning towards the Royal douche. I feel like this is some punishment towards me speaking out against Janet. That spoiled brat. She's been sending me rather dark looks and whispering to her friends whenever I pass by. I am normally used to this type of behavior but for some reason it irks me about as much as Cassius does. Between the meeting and training I haven't slept in awhile and I can sense that it's daylight out and I want to sleep. Guess that still has to be pushed off for the Royal dick. "As you wish, your majesty."
"Spotless," he adds before strutting back out. Eva and I both let out a groan making some of the others in the room chuckle as we leave to get supplies.
Once we are in the hall and start to clean do we start talking again. "You really shouldn't upset people with such high status," Eva grumbles.
"Technically I have a status as well. Uther is my father remember?" I mutter as I adjust my weight on my knees to get a better angle to scrub with.
"A lord isn't nothing compared to the concubine of a prince."
I let out my own snort at her choice of words. It's clear that Janet doesn't intend to stop perusing the prince and from Eva says it's not for romantic reasons. Whenever I see Janet now she just sneers at me like an old woman towards tattoos. I now understand why majority of people are hoping that Liv will express more interest in becoming an empress.
We are in a crisis with the unfaithful and with a stuckup empress like Janet I'm sure more would turn. Surely Prince Cassius can see that, right? What am I thinking, of course not. The man is only really capable of caring for himself. How would he handle this once he is Emperor? Would he actually go to action over the unfaithful?
"You're thinking really hard again," Eva calls out with a smirk on her face. "You get this pouty look when you start thinking really hard. It's pretty cute."
"I am not cute," I grumble pushing a strand of my brown hair from my face. We pause out conversation again as a few people enter the hallway. Coming from the opposite end, heading towards the throne room, is Liv and a little boy. The boy is rather adorable and is probably around seven meaning that he is still unable to go in sunlight if he is a born vampire which would explain the vibrant blue eyes that pair nicely with his dark hair and fair skin. Liv stops beside Eva and starts chatting to her.
The little boy is causally looking up at the large thick curtains covering the windows. I assume he wonders what the sun feels like or what it truly looks like. I know I miss feeling the warmth on my skin. I know that it'll be different since I'm a vampire but I look forward to getting to learn to tolerate the sun.
A man in jeans and a green hoodie stops beside the boy, bowing to him before leaning against the wall and someone else stands on the opposite end of the hall than us. I toss my brush in the bucket while standing up. If this is the youngest prince then why aren't there more guards? The only guards are Eva and I which doesn't really count. I tune in my hearing to their conversation noticing Eva is still speaking with Liv.
"I can't wait until I can go outside in daylight," the young prince muses while looking at the large curtain. The sadness in his tone is evident as the longing in his eyes are.
"Why not experience it now?" The man whispers. My stomach drops but I force myself to move into action, tapping into my vampiric speed. I stop in front of the little prince hugging him to my chest while trying to shield him from the sun.
A white hot burn engulfs my back along with the horrific sounds of sizzling. The feeling makes dots to appear in my causing me to tightly close my eyes which doesn't help. I try my best to move or ignore the pain but I can't move, it's like my body is frozen or shutting down. I just clutch onto the small child against my chest hoping that my body is enough to save his. I can faintly hear what sounds like someone screaming before it registers that it is actually me.
How long have I been screaming?
This pain is like anything I've ever imagined. It feels like my body is melting or like an entire hill of fire ants reside there. Then there's the smell, the horrible smell, oh god the smell is horrid. The one thing that pops in my mind is that My skin is melting like the statues in the movie House of Wax. I force my eyes open to see that someone has wrapped a jacket around me and the little prince and is trying to get me to move. I force my legs to work so that whoever it is is able to guide us I to the darker section of the hall.
"Ivan!" Someone calls out grabbing the boy from me. I let out a small warning hiss but my legs seem to give out as I smack into the floor. My entire body feels as if it's on fire but yet as heavy as cement.
"Get Caitlyn or a Doctor you idiot!" Someone shouts while pulling the jacket off me earning another blood chilling cry from me as a burning throb takes place.
"Vanya?" Eva says. It seems like my head is underwater with how distant she sounds. At this point I am laying on my stomach on the ground withering in pain.
"It hurts," I hiss out as the edges of my bison seem to grow dark. It seems like the burn is traveling over my body engulfing me in its never ending torture until all I can see is black.
