I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting when Cassius told me he was taking me to eat. We rode in some nice looking car with Tyler and one of their other friends, Marco who seems vaguely familiar to me. It took awhile for us to get to the rather packed cafe.
Why would we hunt at a cafe? I've only ever hunted at clubs and bars, it's easier to lure away drunks than caffeine addicts according to Maddy. I mean at least we aren't stuck with the druggies. Jin says they are the worse.
I grab the leather jacket, pulling it on to cover the backless top I'm wearing and follow the boys inside. We get in a corner booth and listen to people recite horrible poetry. "Listening to these people makes me want to jump in the sun again," I mutter. Marco starts snickering only to be elbowed by Tyler.
"It was a good joke man," he mutters shaking his head. His dark hair falls in front of his icy blue eyes which is a few shades more blue than the other two.
"You'd find a chicken with its head cut off funny. It doesn't take much to entertain you," Tyler mutters.
"At least I have humor."
The two lock eyes and glare at one another before Marco starts chuckling. "Tyler has a stick shoved up his butt if you haven't found that out yet," Marco says while shaking his head.
"I do not." Cassius snorts while playing with a straw wrapper.
"You kinda do."
"Cassius," Tyler groans while sliding his hands down his face. The waitress wink at the guys while setting down drinks.
"Is that a hot chocolate?" I whisper pointing to the mug in front of Cassius. He puts a straw in it and slides it to me.
"Some of the best," he says. I wrap my lips around the straw taking an eager sip. Instead of the warm flavor which reminded me so much of winter I am greeted with the taste of iron mixed in with salt. "It's Good right?"
I start shaking my head forcing myself to swallow. "It's fucking horrible! I can't drink hot chocolate anymore can I?" I whine taking a sip of my water.
"I completely forgot about you being turned."
"Can you actually taste this?" I ask watching him take a sip of my favorite drink.
"I wasn't turned, so yeah all of us can," he says.
I can feel my jaw drop as another groan fumbles through me. "This makes you even more of a douche."
Marco laughs while draping his arm around my shoulders. "I like you. Just calling it as it is. Bluntly insulting our future Emperor."
"It just kinda came out. I guess it hasn't fully set in that I can do most of the things I used to. Like sure I worked most sketchy shifts like this one and ate some shit food cause hell I didn't have the time to cook and the world would end if Caleb had picked up a pan and served a woman food but I always had hot chocolate ," I ramble. I twist the ring on my finger while looking out towards the crowd.
"Is that your boyfriend?" Cassius asks.
"Cassius," Tyler warns as I look back at them.
"It's Fine. He was until I killed him."
"I was not expecting that one," Marco whistles under his breath.
"It's apart of the transition. You a drawn to someone who had wronged you and you drink their blood. Uther was there to make sure she didn't get out of hand but from his report it was a rather impressive kill," Tyler explains but the last part seemed almost a brag. The other two turn towards me once again.
