I will always stay with you

Chapter 5

Peeta POV
School is so much better now that I have Katniss and I can't believe that we are friends. She is the most beautiful person I have ever seen and the moment I saw her I knew that I had it hard.

Delly is coming back at the end of the week and I am kind of nervous for Katniss. I don't know how she will react because I think Delly has a couple of friends that aren't suspended and helped to beat Katniss up. 

We sit together every chance we get and I had a schedule change so now one of my classes in the afternoon I don't have with Katniss anymore but we have lunch together. Because we are both new, we are each others only friends, and honestly I could totally call Katniss my bet friend but I don't know if the feeling is mutual. 

Finnick has started to sit with us at lunch along with his friends Gale and Cato. I don't really like Cato but gale is OK. he doesn't talk much which is fine by me. We make a cool little group but we don't talk much.  Well except for Finnick, he could talk all day if you let him.

Today is the day that Delly comes back and I swear if she so much as looks at Katniss, she is going to have me to deal with. We were all in the cafeteria and when I left our table to go get my food, things happened. 

While I was gone Delly came over to Katniss and because Finnick and Gale don't know what happened to Katniss they don't do anything . I feel bad and I should have been there for Katniss but I wasn't. When I look over I see Katniss looking down at her food, fists clenched and Delly standing over her, hand on her hip. 

I rush over to hear Delly say "Having trouble seeing that food Kat" She gives a sharp laugh then I get there I step in front of Delly

I say "Leave, Delly. Leave and I swear to god if you come near any of us again, I don't know what I will do, but it won't be good." I am almost shouting now, then I hear a strong voice say my name from behind. 

"Peeta, I got this." Katniss says. "Delly I don't know what your problem with me is and I don't really care what you do to me, but if you hurt any of my friends or family, including the people sitting at this table, I will break you. I will break you into tiny pieces so tiny that you wont be able to put what's left back together. You can leave now." 

With that Katniss picks up her food, not looking at any of us and walks away. Delly just scoffs and saunters away with me glaring at her from behind. I get up to follow Katniss but Finnick puts a hand on my shoulder and says "Just let her go" I sit back down and notice that none of the other guys ask what that was about. 

The next class is algebra 2 with Katniss and we sit together like always. She looks over at me says. "I just wanted to tell you, Peeta, thank you for being such an awesome friend. You didn't even know me and you took me to the hospital and helped me recover for days. you stood up for me when I've been nothing but mean to you and you are always just so nice." She finishes and takes a deep breath. 

"Oh Katniss you've been nice to me, you just have had a couple of bad days right when I met you, no one can blame you for that, including me."

"I know but still, most people would have been scared off by now" She sighs and looks at the ground. 

"Well it takes a lot to scare me" I say just as the teacher walks in. We get through the day and I drive to Katniss's house to do our homework. Prim opens the door and lets me in. 

"Hi Peeta" she says. I give her a smile and say Hi back. As I make my way up to her room I notice a woman sitting in the kitchen who I had never seen before. I had often wondered where Katniss's parents where but I never asked, it seemed like a touchy subject. 

"Hello" I say the woman, who I am assuming is Katniss's mother. she just gives me a blank stare so I try to start a conversation. "Are you Katniss and Prim's mother?" I ask. she just keeps staring at me so I smile and go upstairs kind of weirded out. 

When I get to Katniss's door I hear crying from inside. I pause and push the door open a crack trying to let her know that I am here. She lets out a little squeak of surprise and hides a picture under her pillow. She tries to wipe the tears off and hide her face from me. 

"Its ok, I cry a lot too" I tell her. I cross the room and sit next to her. "Do you mind if I give you a hug" She shakes her head so I wrap my arms around her. It feels so good. I know I am comforting her but I have dreamed about this moment and I am so happy she feels safe enough with me to let me do this. 

We sit there like that for a while and after about 10 minuets of her gently sobbing into my chest, I take her small form and lay it on the bed. She gives a small grunt of protest which makes me smile. I pull a blanket around her deciding to not do homework and go outside to drive home. 

I think while I drive, I think about Katniss and the happenings of the last couple of days. I think about what an amazing person she is and how I hope she will become a part of my life. I hope our friendship lasts and honestly I hope it becomes more than just a friendship but Katniss is so out of my league.
