After hanging out with Wang Yong for a while after the school, I went back the rooftop and noticed that Ghost's door was wide open. As he was used to being out until the six pm every day, I thought something was wrong. I put my keys to my pocket back and move towards Ghost's part with rushed steps.
"Ghost?" I called out while knocking on the door which was already open. I heard a sob but no answer, so I took the initiative and walked in fast, thinking Ghost was hurt again.
The moment I walked in, Ghost went out from the bathroom and I saw I was right. His eyes were red all over due to excessive crying. Seeing me standing in front of him, he hastily dried his tear-soaked cheeks with his hands.
"What are you doing here?" he asked with a hoarse voice.
"What's wrong?" I asked with anxiety while checking him with my eyes to see if he was hurt physically. "Did you hurt?"
He shook his head with a fake smile, "I am fine, not hurt."
Good, at least it wasn't physical again.
Sighing, I grabbed his wrist and pulled him to the sofa. "Then tell me what's wrong," I said firmly, sitting at the other end of the sofa.
He resisted for a while so I grabbed his slender hand, "you still don't trust me?" I asked trying to sound indifferent but actually I would be super sad if it was the case. After passing that much time together, he must have known the real me, right?
He took a deep breath but didn't retract his hand, "my student is moving to another state," he said looking straight into my eyes as if to prove that he trusted me.
But I didn't understand what he meant. Pouting, I said "you lost me. Tell me from the very beginning, what student?"
He gave himself a light slap on the forehead with his free hand, "of course you don't know, I have never told you."
"Yeah, why didn't you tell me before?" I couldn't help but snap at him. But he deserved!
He gave me an apologetic look, "I... didn't think you would like to know..."
"Really?" my eyes were wide with shock, "I thought we were friends!" I retracted my hand from his hand with anger. I don't know why I overreacted but I really felt like being betrayed learning he wasn't sharing much with me.
"I am so sorry," he grabbed my hand back with shaky fingers, "I am not used to it, you know..."
"Used to what?" I tried to save my hand from his grip but he clenched on me tight.
"To have a friend," he answered softly with tears in his eyes.
Puff! All my anger disappeared with the sight of his tears. What can I say? Apparently he was my weak spot.
I wiped a stray tear trickling down his soft cheek, "you have to get used to having a friend as soon as possible because I am already very irritated with this situation."
He sniffled, "okay," he said with a shy smile.
"Now tell me what happened from the beginning."
He nodded and told me everything. Apparently, he was tutoring first and second grade students in order to pay the rent of the rooftop. He had only three students and he was teaching them after school. But now, one of them was leaving so Ghost was nervous about the money.
It sounds like a trivia matter but hearing him telling it was very heart breaking. We were not even adults but he had to cope with life all by himself. His so-called relatives must have been punished for their ignorance towards my angel! GHOST... I meant Ghost.
Overwhelmed with sympathy, I pulled Ghost for a hug. He got tense for a second but then relaxed in my arms and hugged me back. He was so small in my embrace that I wanted to protect him from everything bad.
A few minutes later, I felt my shirt started to get wet with his soundless tears. I didn't say anything rather rubbed his back and kissed his soft hair, letting him get out everything he was holding in.
I don't know how long we sat like that, but I know it wasn't me who broke the hug, letting him snuggle to me for the warmth he needed.
"Are you better?" I asked him when he pulled himself back.
He nodded fast while looking everywhere but not to my eyes. I knew he felt embarrassed although there was no reason for it.
I grabbed his chin so that our eyes could meet, "as you have free time now, can you do me a favor?"
"What do you need?" he asked softly.
"Can I replace the leaving student?" I asked with a smile. Indeed, I wanted to help him but this deal was also beneficial for me.
"You don't have to do that, I will find another student," he said hastily.
"Look, I really need your help. There is only one month before the second exams and I can't fail math and English again if I want to graduate. I love the way you teach and you need a student, so it is a good deal for both of us."
"I can spare more time to teach you but I can't charge you," he said honestly, "you are already doing a lot for me."
Can we take a moment to appreciate his cuteness? Come on, he was beyond this world! He was so pure that I really had hard time to hold myself not to lock him inside and protect him from the cruel world.
"Don't mix personal interaction with business," I said all-knowingly while giving him a light slap on the arm, "I am your new student from now on and I don't want to hear anything on this matter anymore."
He didn't say anything for a while, so I started to poke him on the arm pouting. At the end he gave in; he nodded shyly and mumbled "thank you."
"No, thank YOU," I smiled at him while staring at his beautiful eyes which-
WAIT! What the hell I am saying?!
