"Bohai, wake up."
I opened my eyes inches away from Ghost's face as his head was on my chest while my arms were around his arms, keeping him in the place. I flinched and let him go and he hastily jumped over me and off the bed with a visible blush on his face.
"Are you better?" I asked while rubbing my eyes. He was already blushed only God knew why so I acted normal.
Ghost nodded before asking "why were we... sleeping like that?"
"You grabbed my hand last night while I was giving you the medicine, don't you remember?" I asked although I knew he didn't as he was drowsy by that time.
He kept staring at me with eyes wide open with shock, "I..." he started but the rest refused to follow.
"It isn't a big deal, with Wang Yong, we always sleep in one bed," I assured him before leaving the bed as well. "What time is it by the way?" I asked as he was still standing next to the bedside table where our phones were.
He checked his phone, "it is ten thirty! Damn!" he cried out and started to stroll around the room like a headless chicken. When he spotted his bag on the floor, he wanted to grab it but the sudden move made him groaned with pain.
I shook my head with annoyance, he was like a careless kid. "We can't make it so stop running around," I told him with a scolding tone. It worked as he abruptly stopped and turned around to look at me.
"That's better, thank you," I gave him a thumbs up before going to the bathroom. When I came back, he was sitting on the sofa in a daze.
"Sit still like this while I am buying the breakfast."
I moved to the door but he followed me, "what about the class?" he asked softly when I turned around to look at him.
I chuckled, "no wonder you are the best student in the school," I patted his hair unwittingly, "nobody will punish you because you missed one day in school."
He pushed my hand while giving me a cold look but he didn't say anything.
After the breakfast, we almost repeated the same things of the previous day. Proud as he was, he insisted on helping me with math which I was grateful for it.
We took a break in late afternoon and I went out for the second time to grab lunch. As I knew that Wang Yong was sure to drop by, I bought three servings and we waited until Wang Yong showed up.
Hehe, you needed to see Ghost's face when Wang Yong really showed up! For the first time, I am sure he was impressed by me.
"You bought for me too? Oww..." Wang Yong said with an exaggerated tone after he took his place on the table. He got ready to dig in but I caught his chopsticks with mine.
"What about the thing I asked?"
There was no free lunch, right?... No, I am just kidding, he is my best friend so it is my duty to feed him... Okay, let's go back to story.
Wang Yong squinted his eyes with fake anger but Ghost didn't notice it so I saw him got tense next to me. Isn't he too precious?
I wanted to tease him more but my conscience didn't let me do it so I patted his shoulder lightly, saying "he is joking, don't worry he won't kill me."
Noticing Ghost's reaction, Wang Yong started laughing and I joined him. Ghost fidgeted uncomfortably and accidentally hit his chopsticks with his elbow. Reflexively, he tried to catch them but as soon as he leaned forward, he winced with pain. Immediately I grabbed his arm, pulling him into a sitting position again.
"I am okay... you can let go now," Ghost patted my hand which was around his slender arm. I didn't even notice that I was still holding him.
"Be careful!" I let him go before collecting the chopsticks from the floor and going to grab a new pair. Wang Yong gave me a strange look but I didn't understand what he meant.
After the lunch, Wang Yong took out of his phone, wigwagging it. "I have what you asked."
"Ghost give your phone nu-," I started but didn't finish as I remembered that his phone was an old model so I rather brought my laptop with a USB cable. Wang Yong didn't need any explanation, he immediately connected his phone to transmit the files.
When he was done, he left after saying to Ghost "be nice to Bohai," which made both of us puzzled. It was his habit though; blurting things out of blue.
After sending Wang Yong, I rejoined Ghost at the table. "Here," I turned the laptop towards him.
"What?" He said suspiciously.
"I asked Wang Yong to record today's classes so that you can listen, only the first three classes are missing."
He kept looking at me with his mouth slightly open. I believed my image in his head was super bad because whenever I was doing something nice, he was giving me that super shocked expression.
"You gonna open a hole in my face if you keep staring me like that," I said irritably. I wasn't that bad you know!
"I am sorry," he averted his eyes, "and thank you," he added a few seconds later.
"No problem," I raked my hair, suddenly feeling a bit shy.
"So shall we study together?" He asked softly as it was his usual way of repaying my kindness.
"I don't understand anything from the class so first you study then tell me, okay?"
He nodded very fast, took his study materials out with his headphones and started to study. I prepared two cups of coffee before joining him with my history notes.
I don't remember when I exactly stopped studying and started to watch Ghost, but as I know that he nods when he understands something and he furrows his eyebrows as well as rubbing his chin when he doesn't understand, I can say that I watched him for a good while. I had the potential to keep doing it as it was really entertaining if Ghost didn't caught me.
"What?" He arched his eyebrows.
"I..." I was caught off my guard. Luckily, my phone rang at that point and saved me.
It was Mr. Liu. He called me to remind me to change Ghost's bandages. Shit! I completely forgot about it.
"Ghost, stand up," I hurried him after I hung up.
Of course he didn't understand what was happening so I just grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the bed, "we need to change the bandages so lie down."
"I can do it myself," he tried to object but he had no chance against me.
"And how can you do it?" I challenged him, "the burn is on your back, you know."
He gulped but didn't say anything. Obediently, he lay down on the bed like a piece of log, not moving even a little. I chuckled to his shy behaviour while taking off the bandages as slowly as I could. However, seeing the ugly reddish burn on his snow-white back, my chuckle disappeared in a second.
Noticing the change in my mood, Ghost propped his body on his arms to look at me. "What's wrong?" he asked worriedly.
I gritted my teeth with anger, "I hope it won't leave a scar otherwise..."
"It won't," he gave me a reassuring smile.
And that smile... mesmerised me... Maybe because of the swirl of emotions, maybe because of the atmosphere, I don't know...
All I know is even after I applied the medicine and patched him up again, I could neither wipe that smile off my mind nor the warmth of his smooth skin from my fingertips.
