sokka didn't know what time his episode started, or 'ended' for that matter. it was just after dinner, after him and katara had argued.
he knew one thing and that was he needed to get help. he couldn't stay up all night again. he needed to rest tonight.
sokka wiped his eyes and nose, sitting up for a minute to regain composure. or at least some of it, the most he could get before he collapsed again. he stood up and got to the edge of his bed, everything was still blurry from the tears threatening to fall.
he needed help.
zuko. that was the only person who had really tried.
he grabbed a small throw blanket off the end of his bed; and then took his pillow before hobbling back over towards his door. he took a deep breath before opening it.
it must've been awhile since this started. the lights were off and everyone else seemed asleep.
either way sokka began to walk down the hall, practically tiptoeing. he didn't wanna wake anyone up but zuko, and even that sounded challenging right now.
sokka found himself at zukos door, gently turning the handle. he leaned against the door way, looking inside at a soundly sleeping zuko. the only light coming in the room was the moon, through the open window.
"zuko..?" sokka whispered softly. he wouldn't be surprised if zuko didn't hear it. it was barely even audible to him himself, but that might've been the loud, steady heartbeat.
"zuko." sokka tried again, this time a mumble.
zuko began to eventually stir in his sleep, rolling over to his other side. "mmmn.." he mumbled back. it wasn't even a coherent sentence. zuko didn't know who was even at the door in the first place.
"can i come in..?" sokka whispered, keeping his feet glued to the floor where he was.
zukos eyes fluttered open as he yawned a bit. he stretched a little and scooted over for sokka to have room. "mhm.."
sokka sighed a breath of relief and closed the door behind him. he set his pillow down on the edge of the bed, trying to keep his distance from zuko. anyway he laid down and got underneath his own blanket. stiff as a board.
he was holding his breath, trying to calm down some more. trying to relax. 'come on sokka. relax. just take a deep breath and sleep. get some sleep. you'll feel better in the morning. just go to sleep like zuko.'
okay. his thoughts were not helping.
"are you awake.." he said softly, turning halfway over to look at zuko.
"mmno.." zuko groaned, rolling back over on the side he was on when sokka entered the room.
"oh. sorry.." sokka bit the inside of his cheek and rolled back over, staring at the wall. this was hard. he wanted a hug, really really badly too.
"do you need a hug..?" zuko said softly, sounded like he had morning voice.
is he a mind reader or something?
"if i can have one.." sokka relied in the same tone, but he stayed rolled over facing the wall.
and soon enough zuko had scooched over and wrapped and are around sokkas waist. he pulled him a little closer, zukos breathing was warm and steady against sokkas neck. if it wasn't his gentle grip that made sokka melt into him it was definitely that.
it was nearly instant. zukos wrapped his arm around sokka and he was calm again. he felt good. warm inside, the good kind. these moments were so soft.
they were gentle and slow. the right amount of everything. it made sokka feel something other than being numb.
maybe zuko was right.. boys shouldn't be doing this with other boys. but sokka was starting to come to a realization-
no. do not think that.
he shut himself down real quick with those ideas. instead, turning around to face zuko. he scooched as close as he probably could and snuggled right on up to him.
neither of them were asleep, they laid in silence for probably ten minutes before they realized the other was in fact, not asleep.
"why are you so deadset i'm making me happy." sokka finally broke the silence, speaking softly.
"i'm not dead set on making you happy, sokka. i'm deadset on making you feel something other than grief.." zuko replies, keeping his eyes closed. he was closer to sleep than sokka was.
sokka stayed quiet, so zuko continued and asked his own question. "is it working..?"
"yes." sokka replied quickly and eagerly. zuko was making him feel a lot of thing actually. he was not just lifting his spirits, he was arising a shit ton of questions too. sokka didn't know who he was anymore. he was having a mid life crisis if anything.
suki died not even a month ago.
and now sokka was starting to question every little thing about himself.
why was this nice to him. why was zuko, a boy holding him, nice. why did it feel so homey, and so right?
sokka was still so fragile right now. for gods sake he just broke down after dinner, for good reason too. was this just him latching on to whoever was willing to help? or were these new feelings actually real. was this even legal? probably not in anyone's eyes.
he shouldn't be melting into zukos touch like he did suki and yues.
this needed to stop.
