katara burst into the dining hall, which literally only existed because of their existence.
everything had clicked in her head the very second zuko walked into that room asking if sokka was ready. she had so many questions that she wasn't gonna ask for privacy reasons.
"oh. good morning katara!" aang looked up from his breakfast over to her.
"we need to talk." katara said softly, closing the door behind her and locking it. she didn't want anyone walking in on this conversation.
"okay." aang said simply, katara didn't seem worried. she just seemed spooked if anything.
"it's about sokka and zuko." she already knew that blabbermouthing to aang probably wasn't the best idea. but aang would know what to do and what to say.
aand didn't reply and just waited for her incoming rambling.
"i think that they're uh.. doing things together." she started off, finally pulling out the chair to sit infront of him.
"what type of things?" aang went back to his breakfast, looking over at her.
"i think sokka likes guys." katara forced out, speaking quietly.
aang looked over at her suggestively, raising a brow. "what? you can't assume that type of stuff. what's the reason?" not like aang would care anyway. he'd always been taught to love one another despite personal choices. everyone's life mattered, and sexual preference didn't change it.
"well they've been spending an awful a lot of time together recently, and only in secret."
"katara, sokkas hurt. he's been hurting really really bad after yknow.. suki. in his arms. i wouldn't be doing great either." aang suggested, scooting his plate to the side so he could focus on this conversation.
"no no i understand that, but it's.. i don't know. it's been awhile since that happened."
"everyone handles grief differently. some take longer to progress through the stages. i'm sure zuko reached out. he really cares about sokka, it doesn't take too much to find that out. you've seen the way he usually, 9 times out of 10, goes to sokka for his issues."
katara sat silently, listening intently. this is why she went to aang in the first place. he always knew what to say, and was also incredibly observant of his friends.
aang continued, "i'm sure that considering the uh.. circumstances with sokka, zuko reached out to help."
"why wouldn't sokka talk to us though-? i mean i've forgiven zuko but.. i'm his sister. you're aang. tophs been here longer than zuko as well."
"zuko knows a lot about loss."
"-so do we!" katara cut in.
"i know we do. we've all lost one thing or another, parents, loved ones. love interests. it doesn't matter, i wouldn't be surprise if he went to zuko. they may not talk a whole lot infront of us, but i do know their bond is strong."
katara was just quiet. aang had a point, maybe sokka had just went to zuko and now they had an attachment from the grief.
- but that still didn't explain this morning.
"sokka came to my room this morning right as the sun was coming up because he had a date."
"okay? he probably met someone, he goes out after dark and walks a lot."
"that's what i thought too, aang. so anyway- i go on to go help him with his outfit or whatever. i picked it out, and sokkas sitting there cutting his jeans after i told him too. and i'm asking who it is- and guess who walked in?"
