they both sat in silence as the fireworks continue to bloom. they were both smiling up towards the sky softly, yet their minds were somewhere else.

he was conflicted and in pain. he didn't want to lie, but kanae was right. he has to put a stop to this somehow.

"shinobu, happy new year." he turns to her and smiles a little.

but shinobu could tell that it was forced.

he looked a little distant now. like an unreachable dream to shinobu as he walks beside her towards entrance.

"tomioka-san, thank you for today. it was really fun!" shinobu smiled at him and bowed.

"...anytime.." he stares at her retreating figure as she walks towards the train station.

as he was just about to leave, he heard his name again.

"tomioka-san! promise me something!" shinobu shouts from a distance, attempting to catch his attention. he turned around successfully.

"yes?" he raised his voice while answering her.

"no matter if we're still friends in the future, promise me to never leave my side!" she formed a circle around her mouth using her hands to make her voice loud enough to hear.

"what are you say-"

"PROMISE ME!" she interrupted him.
