Chapter 1:

The world of Evig Dyr was vast and filled with mythical creatures. Magic pulsated through the lands like blood in a person's veins. While there were many kingdoms across the lands, there were three that held the most influence. The kingdom of Briarvi in the southeast was ruled by the elves and known for their conquests and integration. To the west, across the Ulwandle and Erani seas was the kingdom of Farulia. Ruled by the alkimia, they were known to peaceful and wise. North of both was the kingdom Necaz that was known to be the home of the disgusting deabru.

A wrinkled map damaged by the salty sea air displayed the kingdoms, big and small, as it rested on a splintered crate. A gust of wind tried to blow the map away, but a large cerulean hand with indigo webbing held it securely to the crate surface.

"Uwahaha! Can't go losing this, now can we?" a booming voice laughed. A short and stout blue man was the owner of both the hand and the voice and stood proudly on the upper deck of the ship. He wore a slightly loose-fitting tunic and puffy pants stuffed into knee-high sailor boots, all plain in color. Two leather belts were strapped on his torso holding a rapier and short sword at his side. Over his shoulders, a magenta cape with a putty beige trim and silver clips swayed in the breeze. On the back, there was a multicolored design that vaguely resembled a clam. A matching magenta trifold hat sat on his bald head. "Looks as though it is a fine day to set off."

He gazed over his ship to see the deck buzzing with activity, An array of men, some looked like they were just pulled from a manure pile and others oddly well put together, trudged on and off the ship with crates of varying sizes. Scattered in the crowd were men and women that looked at the working crew with disdain. They were dressed in more upper-class clothing and chattered amongst themselves. A large group of mangy sailors sat off to the edge of the boat and watched everyone. They showed no sign of urgency as they sprawled over crates.

"Captain! Oh, captain!" hollered an opulent male elf. He wore fine clothing that accentuated his round belly. White tattoos adorned his light peachy skin and his pointed ears were perfectly framed by his black locks of hair. He daintily climbed the stairs that lead to the captain, who began to roll the map. "Might I have a word with thee?"

Large, overgrown scales the color grey made the illusion of bushy eyebrows and unkempt facial hair as the captain took a long puff of his pipe. The faint sight of small, beady magenta eyes with the absence of any pupils under the scaly brows gave the elf a once-over. Removing his pipe to speak, the captain responded in a low, gruff voice, "Ah, Lord Aduv. What is it you need?"

"Are you meaning to tell me that this charter is actually feasible? The lethargy of this crew is so thick I could chew it!" Lord Aduv belabored as he gestured to the sailors leaning on the ship's railing.

The captain looked at his men. He took another puff from his intricately wave and scale designed pipe before turning his attention back to the lord. In a slightly annoyed tone, the captain said, "You discomfit me, my lord. Especially since you were the one to hire these lads. My old crew's synergy was a fucking beaut'."

"Those barbaric crooks' edification is untrustworthy," Lord Aduv retorted. He grew hush as he continued, "Do I have to remind you of how important this voyage is?"

"Aye, aye. Don't get your blubber boiling," the captain grumbled. "I'll get my first mate on it, seeing she's the only bit of my crew I got to keep."

He scratched his temple with the point of his pipe, his short fin-ears wiggled with the motion. He searched the ship high and low before he stopped at the crow's nest. He pointed up with his pipe, the jade-colored scales catching the sun's light as he hollered, "Vanajja! Get your ass down here!"
