Chapter Five
The next morning I awoke with the unfortunate taste of Brendan's mouth on my lips. Gross. I hopped out of bed, brushed my teeth, and made my way downstairs. I grabbed a glass from the pantry and poured myself a glass of apple juice.
"Hurry!" I heard my mother squeal.
I took a sip, turning around, finally aware that Grady and my mom were standing under the archway.
"Hold on, I forgot my purse," my mom said. She made her way to the stairs and hurried up to her room.
I walked over to Grady. "Where are you guys going?" I asked.
Grady conspicuously eyed me in my tank top and pajama shorts. "Out and about," he said, mocking me.
"Very funny," I punched him lightly on the arm.
"Ready!" my mom shouted. "Let's go. Bye, honey. I should be back before Evan leaves tonight." My mom grabbed Grady's arm and they made their way out the door.
I locked the doors behind them. I'd made my way halfway up the stairs when the doorbell rang. I made my way way back down the stairs and hurried to the door.
"Good morning," Brendan smiled as soon I swung the door open.
"Hi," I smiled politely. "Want to come in?"
"If I may," Brendan said stepping inside. I closed the door halfway behind him. "So," he said.
"So," I copied.
"Um, these are for you," he said handing me flowers.
"Thanks!" I said genuinely taking the flowers. "They are so pretty." I thought about last nights events with Brendan...and Grady. "But I can't accept this." I started to hand the flowers back to Brendan.
"No, I got them for you," Brendan resisted. "I had a great time with you last night." He smiled.
"I had fun, too. But, I'm sorry. I just think that it is best if we are just friends for now," I apologized.
"Oh," Brendan said looking disappointed.
"I guess you want your flowers back now," I joked.
"No, it's okay," Brendan laughed. "They're yours. I really did have a good time with you last night." He smiled.
"Well thank you. That is very sweet."
"Yeah, well, I've got to go," he gestured to the door.
"Oh, okay. Want to hang out some time?"
"Sure. That would be great," he made his way out the door.
"Catch you later!" I shouted after him.
He waved as I shut the door. I went upstairs and skipped down the hallway.
"Open up!" I shouted as I bursted in Evan's bedroom. I was greeted to clothes, shoes, and toiletries strewn across the room. He had one duffel bag and four open suitcases on his bed. Only one of the suitcases were half full.
He was at his desk on Facebook while texting on his iPhone at the same time.
"Why aren't you packing?" I asked Evan. I walked over to him and ruffled his shaggy hair.
"Updating my status and making sure everyone will miss me while I'm gone," Evan said without looking away from his phone or iMac.
"It says you're packing," I said and then I pretended to look around the room. "I don't think you're packing though.
