Chapter Eight
"Hey," Drew said when he spotted me. He stood as I walked over.
"Hey," I said. I pulled him into a hug.
And he pulled me into a kiss. It was surprising...it was sweet. His lips moved carefully, his tongue moved gingerly. I grabbed a hold of his shirt and was just about to pull him closer when he pulled away and we broke apart.
"Wow," I smiled.
Drew smiled back. "I love your dimples," he said touching my cheek.
"Thanks," I said, "is there something you need to tell me?"
"Not really," Drew said. "I pretty much just wanted to see you again.
I blushed. "Well, you've got your wish."
"And what a wish it was."
"Why did you really call me out here?"
Drew raised an eyebrow. "You just asked me that."
"I want the real answer. I've got nineteen questions left."
He sighed. "I really did want to see you. I like you, and I hope you don't run away from what I am about to tell you." He blushed the deepest I've ever seen someone blush and cleared his throat. "I don't like, like alot of girls. And most of the girls I've really liked - which aren't many - I haven't told them that. I know we've only just met and only been on one date, but I feel something different, Aynsley. You're funny, smart, caring, and not to mention beautiful. And as corny this sounds, I think this might be something special."
Whoa, I thought. I sat quiet for a moment.
"And if you're going to run away can you at least do it silently while I still have my dignity?" Drew said.
I laughed. "I won't run away," I said. "I understand, I really do. I kind of hated to admit it to myself but I felt something the first time I met you. I made conversation because I wanted to talk to you."
Drew smiled embarrassedly. "Glad to see I'm not alone."
"You aren't the only one."
Drew chuckled. "I still don't know much about you," he said. "Tell me about your favourite things...."
And so I did, and he did the same...for hours. Some favourites we talked about for a couple of minutes and some favourites a solid hour. We sat there in the park until it got dark, the moon came out, and park emptied out.
"This was fun," Drew said standing up. "But I've got to go."
I stood. "Yeah," I said. "I should probably go too."
Drew wrapped an arm around my waist and gave me a soft kiss on the lips. "See you tomorrow?" he asked.
"Yeah," I said.
He walked me to my car and I waved goodbye to him.
I'd left the park and was just about to pull up my driveway when my phone vibrated. I fished it out my bag and took a look at the screen.
It was Grady.
I took a deep breath. "Hello?" I answered.
"Hey. Hey, Aynsley," Grady said. He sounded nervous.
"What's going on?"
"Nothing. I was just wondering...."
"Yes?"
"If you could, um, meet me at the park?"
The park that I'd just left?!? "Sure. When?" I said.
"Now?" Grady asked sounding uncertain.
"Okay. I'm on my way."
"Great! See you soon."
I hung up, turned around, and headed to the park.
Why did he want to see me? Why did I agree to meet him? I shook all thoughts out of my head and attempted to clear my mind while I made my way to the park.
I pulled in, parked, and walked around looking for Grady. He hadn't said where to meet him. I checked the time. 11:17 P.M.
I thought about going home when I saw him sitting down on a bench. The same bench Drew and I just sat at minutes ago.
"Um. Hi?" I said quietly when I reached Grady.
He looked up, saw me, and smiled. I sat down.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"Now, now, now," Grady teased. "Is that how you greet someone?"
"That's how I greet you."
"That's not nice at all."
"Who said I was nice?"
"So you're naughty?"
"So you're nosy."
Grady laughed. "Very funny, so what? What can I say; once I'm interested, I'm hooked."
"Sounds very promising."
"I'm so glad you have faith in me."
"No worries. I don't have the faith, you do. You talk a pretty big game."
"I am a pretty big game."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah."
We were leaning pretty close.
"How about a friendly game of 21 Questions?"
