Chapter 1

~Summer~

beep

Beep!

BEEP!

My fist slams onto my alarm clock making it break along with my nightstand.

"Summer!" My mom yells

"Yes, mother dearest?!" I reply trying to sound as sweet as possible even though I just smashed my 5th alarm clock of the week

"Was that the 5th one?!" she asks

"And the nightstand?!" I yell sheepishly

I hear her groan before my brother walks into the room to examine the damage, "You are one strong fox,"

"I wish one of you guys were werefoxes so I don't feel so...different," I mumble getting out of bed

"Come one Summer," Hunter says, "We love you no matter what animal you are, even if you were a fish,"

"Thank Hunter," I reply with a small smile

"Now get ready, we have to go to the new land," he pats my shoulder before leaving

My brother Hunter is one of those boys who act like they don't give a fuck, but when it comes to me, he gives way too many fucks.

I go into my bathroom and get into the shower. I brush my teeth humming to myself until my bathroom door bursts open and my friends stand in the doorway.

"Ready to go, Summer?!" Emily shouts

"Yes, I am Emily Jane!" I shout like she isn't right next to me

My friends laugh as I enter my room and change into an orange tank top and a pair of black short shorts.

"You dress like you're staying in the house," Evelyn says as I put an orange bandana on my hair and pull out two strands of my black hair.

"Who would I dress up for?" I ask them as I slip on a pair of sneakers

"Your mate," Emily says making me stop in my tracks and turn to her

"I don't have a mate," I say

"Just because your grandmother didn't have one doesn't mean you won't," Emily says

"I don't know any other foxes besides my grandmother and she doesn't have a mate, so I don't have a mate, drop it," I tell her sternly

My whole family are werewolves except for my grandmother. The fox gene skipped my mother but she carried it which is why I got it. Nobody else has it out of the 4 people in my family, but they all still love me, it just makes me feel...different.

"So angry," Evelyn mumbles as I grab my suitcases with them grabbing 1 each and bringing them to my bedroom door.

As soon as we place them down, Tristan and Hunter come running up and take the bags down for us. Hunter is Emily's mate while Evelyn is mateless, but talks about how I'll find my mate soon.

I skip downstairs and hug my parents before we get into the car and I sit in the front seat.

"Hey bitches," Tristan says as he gets into the back seat

"Hey Tris," I say while everyone mumbles their greetings

We start driving with many people driving to the same place as us, but some are coming later.

Our new territory is beside another wolf territory. I kind of wish it was a dragon territory, but I don't actually mind. I'm just scared because now that I'm 20, my shift should be coming soon.

I can shift into a fox, but all foxes have a second shift where their fox changes and ages, and they get a power. Some have a get a new form with their powers but it has only happened once and the fox died from not being strong enough for it.

I'm just scared. It's a scare that all foxes have even though there are only 5 now including myself. Some were scared about their power but some were scared about the entire shift in general since it's so painful it could kill a wolf and a very weak fox.

"You done daydreaming, Foxy?" Emily asks

My friends call me Foxy because I'm the only fox spirit they know and the others are almost dead.

"I'm scared," I tell them silencing everything in the car

Scared, was never a word I ever added to my vocabulary, but this shift makes me very scared. A lot of wolves aren't scared to die, but I am. I'm extremely terrified about this shift.

"I'm fucking terrified," I correct, "What happens if I'm too weak and I die because of this shift?" I ask everyone

Hunter's grip on the steering wheel and my friends stiffen at the thought of me dying.

"You're not going to die," Hunter says through gritted teeth

"But, you don't know that. I could be weak compared to other foxes and not even know it and then when this shift comes, it's too much?" I ask them, "What if I survive the shift, but it's my power?" I ask them

"Your grandma said that you're strong for a fox, you'll be perfectly fine," Evelyn says

I think for a second, pursing my lips.

"Okay..." I agree
