AN: Alright folks, this chapter is going to introduce a new ship. Please don't judge too harshly, I think it's kinda cute in this little world:)
It was time for the talent show, and Connor was in his cabin practicing his song and trying to keep his nerves down. There was a knock on his door, so he set his guitar down and came face-to-face with Heather M.
"Hey!" she said, smiling brightly. Connor felt his face grow warm as he smiled back. "I was gonna bring you a coffee or a milkshake or something, but then I remembered that dairy isn't super good before you sing, so do you want to grab something after your performance?"
"Uh, yeah! That'd be great!" Connor said, scratching the back of his neck nervously. She was really pretty. And so kind and sweet and amazing. "Thank you!"
"No problem!" Heather said. She caught a look of Connor's guitar. "You ready for tonight?"
Connor nodded.
"I think so," he said. "I'm just hoping I don't mess up out of anxiety," he continued, laughing.
Heather smiled.
"With a voice like that, you couldn't mess up if you tried," she said, smiling shyly at him. Connor blushed and smiled back. "So, what're you singing?"
"Um, I'm singing a song I wrote," he said, heading over to his bunk and sitting back down, strumming his guitar lightly.
"What's it called?" Heather asked, plopping down next to him.
"It's called 'If I Could Tell Her'," Connor said. "It's about someone who wanted to tell a girl how he felt about her, but couldn't really do it himself."
"That sounds great already," Heather said, smiling. "Is it about anyone in particular?" she teased.
Connor turned red.
"No," he muttered under his breath, knowing damn well that he had based it off of the girl in front of him. Maybe he didn't know her that well yet, but he really, REALLY wanted to.
"Well, I'm looking forward to hearing it," she said, standing up. "I'm gonna go get some dinner with the Schuylers, but I'll see you at the show! Good luck!" Heather waved and left the cabin, shutting the door behind her.
Connor waved back a little too late, making the gesture to a closed door, but it didn't matter. He wondered if it was just going to be him and her after the show for coffee or milkshakes, or if she had invited everyone. He shook the thought from his head, and continued plucking at his guitar.
*meanwhile*
"Heather, you two would be SO CUTE TOGETHER!" Eliza squealed as Heather told them about her visit with Connor. Heather blushed and smiled, looking at her lap.
"I just hope he didn't think that was weird," she said. "We haven't talked much this summer, but I think he's really cute and sweet and I want to get to know him better." She paused. "Also, according to Jared, Connor's too shy to ever make a first move, so...."
The sisters all smiled at each other and clapped excitedly.
"I think he likes you," Peggy said definitively. "He's ALWAYS looking at you, you just don't notice."
"Also, I'm calling bullshit that the song isn't about anyone," Angelica said. "We have to pay close attention to the lyrics and see if they remind us of a certain someone we know," she said, nudging Heather.
Heather grinned.
"I really don't know guys," she said. "But at least I'll be hanging out with him after, anyway."
