chapter seven

Kairi

Mattia woke me up at the ass crack of dawn.

I was literally half asleep as I took my shower and got dressed.

I wore a black polo shirt with regular jeans that I had to cuff in order for them to fit me.

I walked downstairs, going into the kitchen seeing Mattia at the counter sipping coffee.

"Hmm, there's no food in the pantry so I'll have Alejandro get you breakfast on his way. Let's go I have to be there in twenty minutes." Mattia says, standing from his seat and handing me a to go cup filled with coffee.

"Oh, um my mom doesn't let me drink coffee. It makes me hyper." I say shyly. Mattia smiles amused, and looks around.

"Well your mom isn't here, is she? Plus, I'm saying it's okay so just take the coffee, you look like you need it." He gives it to me again, looking at me expectantly.

I take a small sip, watching a satisfied smile appear on his face. I continue drinking the coffee as we go to his car, driving to wherever Mattia was going.

Mattia

I was regretting giving Kairi that coffee.

He was bouncing off the walls as we walked down got off the elevator that lead to the conference room.

"Kairi, calm down. This meeting is important, you can't act like a kid." I say, grabbing his arm roughly to get him to stop running around.

"Ouchie! Hey, I'm not a kid. I told you not to give me that coffee." He said, pouting.

We stopped in front of the door to the meeting room. I looked down at Kairi who was bouncing in place as I slowly opened the door.

(Anything that's being said by Mattia and his business associates is in Italian. I don't feel like going on google translate right now...)

Mattia walked into the room, Kairi following behind him.

Everyone's eyes were on the pair as they came in. Mattia lead Kairi to the head of the table, he pulled out the seat next to the main chair, waiting for Kairi to sit down before he took his own respective seat.

Mattia snapped his fingers at Alejandro, making the latter walk towards him with a brown paper bag in his hands. Ale handed the bag to Kairi.

Mattia watched as Kairi peered inside the bag, taking out a croissant, a juice box and a fruit bowl.

Kairi smiled, thanking Alejandro before beginning to eat.

Mattia finally pried his attention away from the boy, turning towards all the others in the room.

"Good morning gentlemen, I'm glad you could all make it. As you can see, we have someone new with us today. His name is Kairi, and you will treat him with as much respect as you give me."

Kairi's head shot up at the mention of his name, seeing that all eyes were on him. He gave a small smile, looking down as his cheeks turned red.

He wondered why they were all staring at him.

"Will he be joining the team?" A man with grey hair, dressed in an all black business suit asked Mattia as he glanced over at Kairi who was slurping his juice box obnoxiously loud.
