My Crossbow

Chapter 6

"Alright but ye' never leave my side." Daryl tells me, I nod my head in agreement.

"Yes sir."

"Get down te' the gates as soon as ye' can." He leaves me alone, I turn around ready to go and find my kids so I could tell them where I was going.

"Mom!" Darren's voice alarms me, he was running to me.

"What's wrong?" I ask as I meet him half way.

"Rachel." He breathes out, without hesitation I run as fast as I can to the cell she'd be in. There she was laid laid on the bed, coughing and sweating.

"Momma. I don't feel so good." Rachel cries out, my heart breaks. No, please no. Not her too.

"It's gonna be okay sweetie. Daddy's going to get some medicine to make everybody better."

"Hug me momma, please." 

"I can't honey. You're sick, you have to go in a separate room in cell block A okay?"

"No momma." She coughs. "Please don't make me, I just want you, Daddy and Darren." It hurt knowing there was nothing I could do, even before the apocalypse I couldn't do much. But at least I could of held her in my arms and told her everything is going to get better, unlike now. I don't know if she'll make it. I don't know if anybody will, it's not like we can just get a treatment as simple as before.

"We have too Rach, so no one else gets ill." Even being this close is a risk, why her though? Why anybody?

"I'll take her to cell block A, go tell dad. he needs to know." Darren says to me, he's managed to find a bandana to cover his mouth and nose.

"Alright, be careful. I'll be at the gates." I quickly leave, too scared to see my own daughter ill. I run as fast as I can until I see Daryl, the person who right now I needed to see. "Daryl!" I yell, he turns around and sees me running to him, He jogs to me until I was in his arms, I bury my head into his chest letting the tears all come out.

"Darlin'? What's wrong?" I cling to him righter. "What's happened?"

"Rachel." I manage to speak out as I look at him. "She has it Daryl, she's looking bad."

"Shit." He mumbles. "Is Darren okay?" 

"Yeah. He took her to cell block A, he has a bandana covering his face." Daryl hugs me tighter. "I'm staying here, she needs me. I don't know what I'll do but I need to stay." He nods his head, I pull away from the hug.

"She's our daughter, her an' Darren will always be first."

"We can't lose her."

"We wont. I promise." 

"I'm going with you, I can't just sit back and do nothing. I-I can't." Darren speaks as he comes into view. "I don't mean that you're not doing anything mom, I just need to go."

"It's okay, I understand. Now  both of you be careful and come back alive." I give Darren a hug before he gets in the car.

"I'll protect him Darlin'." Daryl assures me.

"I know you will and he'll be the same with you." He get sin the care, my heart wanted to tell him I love him but no words escaped my mouth. They never did when I wanted to tell him how I feel about him, I'm still scared. I watch them leave before heading towards the main building.

"Megan!" Rick shouts, I go over to him. "I'm sorry. I saw Rachel."

"Yeah." I wasn't sure on what to say, my feelings were everywhere. I still find it hard to believe that this is actually happening.
