I woke up with a twist in my stomach.
I ignored it, of coarse.
It was probably some trauma from the corpses yesterday, or a bit of bad bread.
I put on my jacket and dragged myself into the meeting room.
Julio, Will, and Devon were already there.
I sat across the table from Julio.
They all stared at me.
It was silent until Julio broke it.
"You look like shit." He said plainly.
"Wow, thank you so much."
"I'm just telling the truth, princess."
"Asshole."
"Honestly, just make out already." Devon commented.
I scowled and he laughed.
"Whatever," I continued the conversation. "I feel like shit too."
"Perfect, then I guess you're up for today's activities."
Devon explained the mission to find the military institute down south.
"You, Will, Ryan and I will set up a base about five miles south." Devon declared.
So we set off.
We didn't get very far before the twist in my stomach tightened.
"Are you okay-" Devon started.
I turned away and threw up.
But it was weird.
Because gravity didn't work.
And I was left choking.
I tried to cough but I couldn't move.
There was a sharp pain in my hip and I fell on my side.
Gravity started to work again and I threw up.
But for a second, behind my eyes, I saw Jordan's face.
I felt the freezing snow under me.
I stared into Jordan's greenish eyes for a few seconds.
The green melted into a dark brown and Will took Jordan's place.
"Oh my gosh. Are you okay?" Will asked.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine." I assured him in a raspy voice.
"You clearly aren't."
I stood up and tried to walk.
"See. I'm-"
I never got to finish that sentence.
I took one step and collapsed.
=+=
"You okay Jay?"
I nodded and opened my eyes.
Jordan smiled and handed me a cup of hot chocolate.
"I'm thinking The Lion King tonight?" I suggested.
"Perfect. I'll pop the popcorn."
We sat down and watched the movie.
"You're awesome Jay." Jordan said, grinning.
"I know."
I fell asleep on the couch watching The Lion King.
=+=
"Wake up, princess."
"Huh?"
Julio's face was smiling at me.
We were sleeping on the ground.
"We've got some miles to cover till Canada."
"Explain this plan again to me, it's confusing as hell."
"Zach found his passport. Legally he can get himself back into the country and take us with him."
"So we're abandoning America?"
"We either die in America or live somewhere else."
"Smart."
"Right?"
"I love you."
"Love you too, princess."
=+=
My head pounded and my hip stung.
I dragged my eyelids up and peered around.
Blankets with moth holes covered me, creating goosebumps.
Devon walked in the room and his eyes widened.
"She's awake!" He cried out. "Guys, she's awake!"
Devon rushed over to me and felt my fore head and asked me a million different questions.
Stacy and Dakota came in.
"Holy shit." Dakota mumbled.
"What's wrong, what's happening?"
"You don't remember?" Devon questioned.
I nodded and he started to explain.
"You were shot by a wounded man in an alley. You've been unconscious for almost a month."
My eyebrows furrowed.
"But... But my dreams barely lasted a day."
"That's how dreams work."
"She's probably jacked up on those meds we gave her." Stacy pointed out.
"Right um... Keep her awake." Dakota told Devon and left the room to get something.
"Tell me about the dreams you had."
"Hm... Well..."
I thought for a moment.
"I can't exactly remember them."
I thought harder.
And they slowly started to come back.
I smiled and laughed.
"Julio. Julio, he's a genius!"
"What are you talking about?" Devon asked, confused.
"Julio. He figured out what to do! Where's Jordan? I need to talk to both of them!"
Devon's face changed into one of pity.
"Jay, Julio and Jordan are dead."
