Over ten years

Over ten years. That's how long I've been a cop and six of those years a detective. I can't say that I've never received death threats or something that'll shake you up.

But I can say that in my entire career, I've never had someone threaten to rape me. Especially in the most uncomfortable area. To be honest, I'm scared. I don't think that I can return to that neighbourhood without someone to protect me.

I can fight but I can only take two people at a time and win. Three is my maximum but more than that, I'm toast. And I know how these gangs operate. It's never really one guy to take, especially if you're strong.

"You're amazing, you know that?" I slapped out of my daze. "What?" I sounded stupid but I was a little confused.

"You just took on a real gangster and you didn't even waver a little bit. You looked him straight in the eye and told him off," he smiled and I shrugged.

"Not my first death threat," I take a seat in the small dinner. The waitresses come to take our orders. "I'd like a greek salad with water, please," I ordered and she wrote it down.

She ogled at Bryce a bit before she took in his order. "I'll have the cheeseburger with fries, add some calamari on the side and four wings. And for a drink, I'll be healthy and go with the diet coke," he made his order.

The waitress left to give in the order and I was left a little stunned by his appetite.
"What?" He obliviously asked.

"That's a lot of food," I said and he chuckled. "I eat a lot," he stated with a simple shrug.

"And yet you look like that," I gestured at his body. He chuckled with a small shrug.

"So what've we got on the neighbours?" I changed the topic. "The next-door neighbour says, she heard arguing but it was muffled so she couldn't hear what the argument was about. Said one moment they were arguing the next there was silence and then the cry of a baby," he caught up to speed.

"So she thought that the argument was stopped by her giving birth?" I asked and he nodded in response. "Well, that's not so helpful. Any ID of the guy?"

He shook his head, "No one saw the guy," I sighed. "Perfect. I spoke to the mother, said she'll give me a list of the people she and stuff this afternoon. Although she did give me Jamal's name as well as her best friends' names," the food finally arrived.

I normally never had an appetite but Bryce's food looked really good right now. "Share?" He offered. "No, thank you," I said with the shake of my head.

"Come on, Tommy. Don't be one of those girls," he seemed like he could help but smile.

"One of what girls?" I looked around the diner to see which girls he was referring to. The dinner was half-full and with a lot of girls.
