My heart is pounding. God, did I screw up? He looked a little scared. I swam back to him, and startled him. Shit, I think I went too fast.
“Ya… It’s still me. Don’t be afraid.” I tried to calm him a bit. Aish… I need to get him somewhere he feels safe. I grabbed his hand and swam to a nearby island.
As we came ashore, we walked up the beach and I guided him towards a place to sit.
“Kookie. Are you okay?” He was just sitting there looking at the water, then looking at my legs. “Ya… Please don’t be scared of me. It’s still me. Tae.” He inhaled a deep breath, obviously still processing everything I showed him.
“How… I mean… Is this for real? I mean, i’m not dreaming? Or dead? Or something?”
I just laughed. This kid… “No, you are not dreaming or dead. And yes, it’s real.” He exhaled, letting the truth sink in.
“You kissed me.” he said. I laughed again. Of all the things, I thought he’d start out interrogating me about my appearance, though I know it’s coming. Mer are curious by nature, but so are people.
“I have a million questions.”
“I figured you did. That’s why I brought you here. And after all that, I wanted you to feel safe. … Are you scared of me?”
“...No. I mean, it’s okay, i think... because I know you. I think I'd be terrified if I saw you like that first.” he confessed. “I mean… you are beautiful. More beautiful underwater, if it’s even possible. But, you’re so different from me.”
“Is that good? Or bad?”
“I don’t know. I’ve never met a… merman(?) before.” he chuckled a little. “So… people don’t… you know… know about you? Or do they?”
“No. And we have to keep it that way. Kookie. I’m trusting you with my life. My family’s life as well. … Not a word.” I warned him politely. He nodded.
“So…...... has a merman ever been with a person before?” he blushed, starting his questions off with a bang.
