Jungkook

I sat on the end of the pier waiting for Tae.  Hours went by.  After the first day, I thought maybe he was just busy with family or something, and couldn’t meet.

But then it was a week.  Now going on two.

“Jungkook.  Don’t miss work today.  If you keep skipping out early or showing up late, they’re going to let you go.”  my mom warned.

“Yeah, yeah… i’m going.”  I’ve been going to the beach everyday since I last saw him.  Hoping he would be there.  But there’s been no sign of him since that day.

“I know you want to see him again.  But… maybe he had to leave?  We get a lot of part-time residents here.  You know that.”

“Eomma, it’s not like that.  I know it.  It’s something else.  He has to come back.  …  He has to…”  I tried convincing myself, looking down at my feet.

“I know you’re worried.  But you also need your job.  So get going.”

“Fine…”  I turned and left the house walking toward my work for the day.

It’s now been 2 full weeks.  I’m back to my usual boring life.  I’m at the beach again today.  Not by the pier, though.  I walked the other way toward all the shops.  Today there were a bunch of people selling trinkets and other small things along the sidewalk.  I walked by each one, looking to see if there was anything interesting.

“Young boy…  you look like you have a message to send to someone, no?”  this older lady called to me from the next table over.

I smiled at her, “How did you know?”  I looked at her table full of glass bottles with a piece of rolled up parchment paper inside.  She handed me a bottle and a pen, and motioned for me to write something down.

“Just write what’s on your heart, and it will come true.”  she smiled up at me.

So, that’s what I did.  I shoved the cork into the opening of the bottle to seal it shut, and walked to the water’s edge.  I closed my eyes, wishing… and threw it in.
