Taehyung

I swam back toward home, not being able to hide the ridiculous smile on my face.

“Tae!”  Jimin spun out from behind a big yellow coral post.

“Geez, Chim!  You started me!”

“Tae!  …  Shit.  Tae… You might have been seen.  Father is looking for you, and he doesn’t look happy.”

My heart sank into my gut, and suddenly I felt like throwing up.

“Just… just come clean.  It’s better this way.  Even if you wanted to keep seeing him, someone would have seen you guys eventually.”

He’s right.  I was so careless.  I thought I was far enough away from home, but someone must have been around.  I swallowed, nervous for the rest of the swim home.

Pausing outside the room my Father was in, I pleaded for Jimin to come with me, but he refused.  He did say he would be right outside though.

I slowly peeked through the crack in the door, seeing my Father looking away through a coral window facing out to sea.

God, here goes nothing.  I swallowed again.  Be confident.  You can do this.  Kookie can be trusted.  There’s nothing to worry about.  “...Father,”  I announced my appearance.

“Shut the door.”  Crap, he sounded mad.  I can’t breathe. I shut the door and braced for impact.

“Taehyung.  You know why you are here.”  I nodded.

“I don’t have to sit here and explain all the consequences of your actions, do I?”  I shook my head no.  “or how serious of a situation this is?”  he continued.

“What were you thinking?!?  What ARE you thinking?  You are putting us ALL at risk, Tae!  …  You know why it almost never happens.  We are too different.  Them and us.  It is too risky.”

“Father… please.  I… I like him.  A lot.  We can trust him!”

“No Tae.  You aren’t thinking straight.  The ONLY way something like this works, is if it’s a whole lot more than just ‘like’.”

I knew what he was saying was true.  I started to tear up.  “...It could be.  I mean, we haven’t known each other very long.  But I really like him, Father.  I’m afraid I won’t find someone like him ever again.”

“Tae…”

“Please, just… just give me a little bit more time with him.  To find out.  To see if what we have is real.”

“Tae.  You do realize, that it is for forever, right?  He will lose everything he has on land.  Family, friends, work… all of it.  …  There is no going back.  Ever.  So you had better take that time to really think about what you are doing.”

And with that he left the room.
