"Sorry!" the girl squeaked as she weaved through the large crowd of bodies, trying her best not to step on anyone's feet as she went along.
To put it simply, she was late.
Her morning was off to a horrible start. She had gone to sleep late last night and had consequently forgotten to charge her phone and set her alarm. She had woken up the next day to find her phone on one-percent and the bus she was meant to catch, gone. Luckily, the next bus came an hour later, however what she didn't realise after knowing that was that by the time she got off at her stop she'd only have ten minutes to get into the building, up to the sixteenth floor, down the corridor and to the farthest room from the elevator.
When she reached the elevator she found it completely filled with a line waiting outside as well, meaning she had to take the stairs. This would also mean that by the time she got to the sixteenth floor she'd be just about ready to collapse on the floor because of the lack of oxygen she was taking in and the burning in her legs.
And this was when she realised she only had two minutes to get to the Chairman's Office, so, with the little bit of energy and power she had left in her body, she made a run for it.
"Oi! Watch it!" yelled a man as she accidentally bumped shoulders with him, to which she quickly yelled a 'sorry' back.
After turning a few more corners she was met with the door she was looking for. That was when she finally stopped and put her hands on her knees, bending over as she took in large gulps of air. That was also when the door was opened and there stood her boss, Mr. Park.
He furrowed his eyebrows as he looked down at the panting girl. "Are you okay?" he asked, a little concerned for his new secretary.
She looked up from her crouched position before realising who was talking to her and immediately standing up properly and smiling, "Yes, of course! Why wouldn't I be?" then she waited a beat before continuing, "I'm on time ....... aren't I?" she asked/
Mr. Park looked down at his watch before looking back up at her, "Yeah, you're not late ...." he replied making the girl sigh out of relief, but he wasn't done, "But ..." he stretched out the word before continuing, "You do know that it's six-thirty, don't you?" she nods, "And that you were meant to come at eight-forty-five, right?"
At this comment her jaw dropped, giving him his answer, no, no she didn't know that. If she did, she would have stopped to have breakfast somewhere, she would have slept a little longer and she wouldn't have ran through, and into, so many people to get here 'on time'.
And this was when her filter turned off. She let out a loud groan as her posture sagged and her shoulders dropped, "You've gotta be fuckin' kiddin' me."
Mr. Park chuckled at the comment, choosing to ignore the profanity, and moved back into his office before gesturing for her to follow, which she did. He looked back at her sympathetically before closing the door behind her. She kept on grumbling to herself as she slumped onto one of the couches, her boss sitting faxing her on the other couch.
"Okay, you know what? Why don't you just sleep here then. I'll wake you up when I have work for you to do." he offered.
She sighed as she looked back at him, unconsciously scanning his facial features and committing them to memory, "Nah, it's all good, I just wanted to complain for a bit, that's all. I'll just start working early."
To which he replied by shaking his head and giving her a soft smile, "Don't worry about it. To be honest, the only reason I actually even called you in today was to see how much you were willing to do for the job and if you were actually serious about wanting it. I don't have any work for you to do for me today so you can just relax or sleep or whatever, I don't really care."
Now she was confused, "What, sorry but I don't understand Mr. Park."
He chuckled before replying, "Well, if you couldn't tell, most of the people who were there for the interviews were sluts." he said simply, shocking her with his bluntness, "They only wanted to get in my pants and they thought getting the job that will let them spend the most time around me would help them. I just wanted to see if you were one of them because, let's be honest here, you're gorgeous."
That statement caused the tan skin on her cheeks to gain a slightly pinker hue as she stuttered, not really knowing what to say, "Uh, um w-w-well, th-thank you. You're not so bad yourself."
Then there was awkward silence. Until, Mr Park cleared his throat, jumping up from the couch and gesturing for her to do the same as he made his way towards her previously occupied seat, "Alright, well, I'm going to show you something." he said, leaning down and grabbing something under the sofa before snapping his head up to look at her and saying, "But, this stays between you and me, alright?" she nods, and he turns back to the sofa, tugging on whatever he is holding.
Suddenly, the couch isn't a couch anymore, it's a bed. "This is usually where I sleep when I decide to stay late at the office and can't be bothered to drive myself home. You can sleep here for now." he explained, moving away from the couch-now-bed and motioning for her to lay down, which she did. He then brought out a blanket, seemingly from nowhere and draped it over the girl. "There you go, all nice and warm" he comments before moving back to sit behind his table.
The girl lies there for a bit, already feeling the drowsiness take over, what the hell?! It takes me, like, four hours to get myself to fall asleep at home and here I am laying in an office with some dude I've only met, like, once sitting near me and I'm falling asleep? What is going on?! She thought as herself as she felt her eyelids become heavy.
The last thing she heard before completely drowning in a sea of fresh lime and cinnamon was Mr Park saying, "Oh and by the way, you don't need to be so formal when it's just us two, just call me Jisung."
Yeah, alright then.
