She turned off her music, trying to make it seem as casual as possible, keeping her earphones in her ears as she listened for the sound again. She was on her way home, and like any other day, she had stayed at work late again so by the time she had left the massive building the sky had turned almost pitch black.
She forced her steps to become more silent to allow her to hear her surroundings better. Let me tell you, heavy leather lace-up boots are not the best thing to wear when you are trying to see if someone's following you. Actually, they weren't the best choice of footwear in general, I mean, who wears this shit to an office job. What the fuck is wrong with me?!
Speaking of which, she quickly snapped out of her unconscious grumbling about her bad footwear choices when she finally heard the slow, quiet, yet heavy, tapping of shoes behind her. She looked around for the closest light source, only to find a small convenience store just across the street.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm her erratic heart, before breaking into a full-speed sprint to the store. The thick heels of her boots bushed against the pavement as she ran at full speed, not even taking a second to look back as she made her way across the street. Her blood pumped loudly in her ears as she moved on an adrenaline rush, not hearing the yelling coming from behind her as she made it to the automatic doors of the store.
Ha I think the fuck not you trickass bitch. Fucking dipshit i'd like you to try and kidnap me here where everyone can see you creep. She thought to herself, internally patting herself on the back as her lips turned upwards into a little smirk. She turned around, finally, to see what the 'creep' looked like.
Well fuck me. Was the first thing she thought as soon as her eyes made contact with her boss' hunched form, hands on his knees as he breathed roughly through his nose. I swear to god I used up all that energy and for what?! I hate myself. Time to commit unalive. She groaned internally as she moved towards him.
"Uhh, hi?" she said awkwardly as she stopped a few steps away from him. "Not to sound self-centred or anything but were you following me? Or am i just really, really paranoid?"
He chuckled weakly before slowly standing back up to his full height, fixing the tie around his neck before clearing his throat and replying, "No, you're not paranoid, I was following you."
"Oh, ok." she smiled sweetly before shoving him backwards, careful not to push him towards the road but with enough force to make him stumble, "What the fuck man?! Why would you do that? Are you crazy?!"
"What?! Sorry!" he sputtered regaining his footing. "Why are you being so....?"
"I-" she started before stopping and breathing in. she pushed her fingers against each other, "Well, look at it this way, yeah? I, a female, am travelling on foot, at night, a.k.a in the dark." she waited a few moments for him to absorb her words before watching his eyes widen and complexion pale in realisation, "Yeah. yeah, see? You're getting it now!"
"Oh shit. I am so, so sorry I-i, uhm, I didn't realise, I-" he stuttered and looked around, his hands twisting together as he trailed off into incoherent mumbling.
She sighed, placing a hand on his fidgeting ones, pulling them apart but keeping her hold on the left one, giving it a light, reassuring squeeze, smiling up at him, "Don't worry. I've come to realise that you can be a bit dense at times."
He opened his mouth, about to argue but before anything could escape she placed a finger on his lips, continuing, "But it's okay. I totally accept you for who you are."
He scowled down at her before turning away and facing forward, giving her hand a squeeze and starting to walk as she giggled, following behind him.
I guess you're cute, or whatever.
