Annabeth's POV

Percy and I walked through the halls, hand in hand. I noticed many people were looking at us, but mostly at me. They were looking at my arms, legs, and most of my other body parts. I wondered why. It was almost as if they suspected I was hiding something, like bruises. I shook my head. That's ridiculous. Alexis walked up to me.

"Alex, what's going on? Why is everyone looking at me and Percy? Well, more me." I asked.

"Show me your arms." she replied. I looked at her in a confused way.

"Why?" I asked. She grabbed my arm and rolled my sleeve up. I was a bit embarrassed, but I realized by everyone's faces that this way what they wanted. Alexis looked shocked and mortified when she saw my tan skin.

"What is it, Alex?" I asked.

"He doesn't beat you?" She asked me. I looked at her in absolute shock, and Percy looked like he was about to pass out.

"Of course not. We're in a happy relationship! Who gave you that idea?" I asked. She wouldn't meet my eyes.

"Luke, and I was a fool to believe him." She replied. I couldn't believe the betrayal I felt. I was close to tears. Percy just hugged me and I was held in his arms. It was very relaxing.

"How could he do this to me? We were friends, we were family. Now, he tried to cause us problems and ruin us." I said. Percy didn't say anything, and I realized why. He would end up trying to cheer me up, but he'd say something stupid and we'd fight. I just let him hug me. I heard many different kids say "Awwww..." I smiled through my sadness. At least they no longer believe that I am in an abusive relationship, I reasoned.

~In American History Class~

The teacher continued to talk about the Civil War, but I stopped listening a while ago. I knew many things about the Civil War, many things that I would not need to know for the test.

"Annabeth Chase!" Mr. Huglire called out.

"Yes, sir?" I replied.

"Since you haven't paid the slightest bit of attention in my class, let's see what you remember, and count this as your final grade." he said. I sighed and flawlessly answered all his questions. I heard a few claps and some "How did she know that?" questions being told. I smirked as I correctly answered the final question.

"Very well, Annabeth. At least I know that you are always listening." he said and smiled. I grinned widely. These days made me grateful to be smart. There are days when I wish I had more strength or other traits but other times I'm grateful. I just wished I could use my knowledge to solve my situation with Luke. I don't understand his reasoning to hurt me and Percy. Was this just petty jealousy? I was sad. We were so close, even before we dated. Why couldn't we just go back to that relationship? I groaned. Why was life so difficult? Did the Gods just try to think of ways to make my life more difficult?
When the bell rung, I jumped out of the classroom and bumped straight into Matt.

"Sorry, Matt." I muttered.

"It's cool. Annabeth, do you want to hang out later? We never spend much time together, even though we're friends." he replied.

"Yeah.... sure. I'll bring Percy and then we could go out to the cafe?" I offered.

He nodded and smiled. "Thanks, Annie." I smiled and blushed. I got used to being called Annie.
