Annabeth's POV

"Mom, do I have to go to a public school?" I asked my mom for the tenth time.

"Sweetheart, I want you to go to a public school so you know how to deal with rude people in your future. Sweetie, you're 16 now (Sorry, I decided to make them the same age, because in the books they usually were). Only two years of public high school (not including this one), and then you get to go to college. Anyway, I believe all your friends are going. It's Luke and Thalia's last year there as well. Please, Annabeth, don't fight me on this one." my mother replied. I sighed and loudly groaned. My mom grinned, realizing that she had won.

"Mom, when is the driver going to pick me up, then?" I asked.

"He isn't. You're walking to school," she said and grinned before continuing, "and you're walking every single day you go to high school." I stood there, shocked. I couldn't even speak. The school was 9 blocks away! My mom never let me walk far alone. I groaned again. I sat down and quickly ate my toast before grabbing my bag and walking out the door.

Percy's POV

I left my house at around 7:45, hoping that in 15 minutes I could get to school, to the office for my schedule, into my homeroom class, and get to my locker afterwords. I sighed and started to run when I saw my best friend, angrily, running to school as well.

"Annabeth!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. She turned around and smiled at me. She waited and I quickly caught up to her.

"Your parents too?" she asked me. I angrily nodded, and complained about my morning while walking to school. She nodded and told me about hers. Before I knew it, we were in front of our school. We went into the office and I saw the clock said 7:51. I was pleased and surprised that I had made it.

"You two. Names." the secretary said.

"My name is Annabeth Chase, and this is my friend, Percy Jackson." Annabeth told her for the both of us.

"Well lucky you. You and your friend have all the same classes, even homeroom. Your lockers are even next to each other! If you two need a tour, go to Luke Castellan. He should be-" she said before being interrupted.

"Annie!" Luke yelled. The two hugged. I couldn't help but feel jealous.

"Come on you two. Get your papers and I'll show you around." Luke said. Annabeth and I took our papers and showed them to him.

"Your lockers are down the hall. You have a few minutes. Take your math books out but the rest leave it. After homeroom, you have math class. Your class is in Room 104 with Mr. Martinez. Now you have homeroom with Mrs. Gardner. I'll show you, come on." Luke said and lead us to class. He pushed us in. Annabeth sat down near our friends, Piper McLean, Leo Valdez, Frank Zhang, and Hazel Levesque (Is that how you spell it?). Piper and Leo were dating, as were Frank and Hazel. I say next to her. Mrs. Gardner walked into the room and began welcoming the children to the school and explaining it to us. I was barely listening, I was lost looking at Annabeth. The beautiful way her curls lay on her shoulders, her beautiful eyes staring at the teacher, dedicated to understanding it all, and her tan skin, like a Californian girl. I didn't realize class ended until everyone was leaving, and Annabeth was dragging me with her.

~.~ Lunch ~.~

Class went by the same all day, and I even managed to get a detention since I wasn't paying attention to the teacher. Annabeth and I waited on line, and bought our food. We began walking to our friends when Thalia and Luke came to us. I mentally sighed. I used to like them, but lately I've been extremely jealous and not wanting to talk to or acknowledge them.

"Annie, want to sit with us? You can be cool with the seniors." Thalia offered. Before Annabeth could reply, I said, "We were going to sit with our friends. She'll talk to you later? Great. Bye!" then I dragged her towards our friends and she sent an apologetic look to Luke and Thalia. When we were with Hazel, Frank, Piper, and Leo, Annabeth finally reacted to what I said.

She hit me and said, "Percy, why are you so rude to them. They are my friends!" I didn't look her in the eye and I muttered sorry. She looked away from me and started eating.

"Can you guys come over right after school? We can help each other with homework, well Annabeth can. Then we could talk and have fun, like we did during the summer." Leo offered. We all nodded, my parents were okay with me going to people's houses, especially if I was getting homework help. The rest of school went by, and I was so bored. By the time school ended, I was ready to collapse.
