Chapter 1- The Day That Started Everything

Annabeth's POV

"Sweetie, are you getting ready for the meeting?" Annabeth hears her mother ask her.

"Mommy, can you help me choose between two dresses?" I call back to her. Within a minute, a dress is picked and I'm dressed in it. I look at myself and sigh. No normal kid is dressing up like this on a Wednesday. Why couldn't I be normal? Why is my mother the most successful businesswoman in America? Why does she need to make a deal with Poseidon Jackson, her biggest rival. My mother created buildings while he tried to preserve the land and make ponds, lakes, or whatever pleases him. He gets millions for all the tourist attractions. Everyone thinks that it's gorgeous.

"Annie, thank you for agreeing to come for this meeting as my support. I know you'd rather be elsewhere. This means a lot to me." my mother said and beamed at me.

"Of course, mommy. I love you and I want to stand there beside you as you seal the deal." I said and smiled. It was partially true. I loved my mom, but I would rather be at school and go to my friend Piper's house later, like a normal 12 year old girl would. I felt I owed this to my mom though, after everything she's done for me. I was desperate to make it up to her and please her and make her proud.

"Come on then honey. The driver is waiting." My mother said. We walked downstairs and entered the car in silence. As the gates closed behind the car, I suddenly missed my bed.

Percy's POV

"Mom, dad, do you know where my green tie is? I want to look handsome." I asked my parents. My mom looked at me and laughed so hard. She pointed toward the closet door. I sighed. My mother enjoyed to laugh whenever I said something regrettable, but hey, that's love. I tore the closet apart until I saw the tie on a hook in the back. I attempted to put it on and failed miserably. My mom walked over, still grinning, and helped me put it on.

"Mom, do you even want to go to dad's stupid meeting with the building woman? I mean, what does it matter? There's always at least one rival." I said, trying so sound mature. I didn't want my mom to know I found that out from a movie.

"Well, son, I'd rather have anyone but that woman as my rival." he said suddenly and whispered in my ear, "She's absolutely terrifying. She only has a soft spot for her daughter, Anniebell or something like that. Everyone else can die in an explosion if her daughter was safe. I don't want to be one of them." I grinned goofily, making my mother suspicious.

"I have rather good hearing, mind you. Oh and dear? Her daughter's name is Annabeth." My mother said, looking proud. My father looked away from her and chuckled. My mom was always the smart one, remembering little details. While I was thinking about my mom's and dad's pros and cons, I failed to realize we were at Athena's main building and walking into her board room. I only realized when I saw the most beautiful girl walk in. She had golden princess curls and these fierce grey eyes, looking as though they were calculating every move you can make before you can make them. They were a bit intimidating, but extremely beautiful. I saw her and a woman sit. I realized the woman was her mother, Athena, by how she kept glancing at Annabeth in joy. My parents were sitting and I silently sat next to my mom. The whole time my dad, my mom occasionally, and Athena were talking, I was looking at Annabeth. She started looking back at me and it was like we were having a conversation with our eyes. We understood each other perfectly and it felt like we knew each other forever. It was then that I realized that Annabeth and I were going to be great friends, and maybe even something more.
