A/N: What's up? Have fun reading!
Steve rings the doorbell, and out comes a girl around my age. "How ya doin' Lace?" Steve flirts. "Get away from me Steve!" she shouts. He backs up and huffs. "Two-Bit, why is everyone here? Are you throwing yet another party?" Lacey bursts. "No, I just wanted you to meet Soda's girlfriend. This is Astra. I think you two would get along just fine," Two says. "Hey, I'm Lacey Harper Matthews. How do you do?" she asks. "I'm Astra Chère Sanders, and I'm doing just fine. Thank you!" I reply, holding out my hand for her to shake. She smiles and gladly takes it. "Maybe we could go to hangout? I've been with these boys all day," I suggest. "Hey!" Soda laughs. "Yeah! Let's go!" she holds my hand, and we go running to the nearest diner.
After three fun hours, Lacey and I decided to call it a night. "You know what? Maybe you could stay with me tonight!" she says excitedly. I smile and stand, reaching for the nearest phone. I dial my home phone, waiting for my mom to pick up the phone. "Yes?" a familiar voice rings. "Hey, mom! I was wondering if I could spend the night with a friend?" I hear my mother smile through the phone. She'd been trying to get me away from home for a while now. "Of course sweetheart! How long do you plan to stay?" she asks. I mouth the question to Lacey, who stands behind me. She holds up three fingers and smiles. "Three nights?" I reply, waiting for an "okay". "Alrighty! See ya!" my mother says. "Thank you so much! Bye!" I turn to Lacey and jump up and down. "Hey girls? The diner is closed now, you might want to leave before we lock up," the waitress says. We both smile awkwardly and leave.
Lacey and I had been hanging out for the past two days, and this was my last one. Luckily, a Six Flags was opening today. Both of us threw on some clothes and ate our breakfasts as fast as we possibly could. We wanted to be the first ones there since we knew it would be packed. It wasn't easy speeding on the highway when cops were everywhere. One was behind us for a while, but they didn't signal for us to pull over. Lacey smiled as she saw the entrance. The parking lot was empty, but not for long. People started filing in, their cars gleaming in the sweltering heat. The guards at the front gate asked for our tickets, and we willingly followed directions. "You know you two young girls shouldn't be out all alone," the guard stated. We both shrugged it off, not really caring about what could happen to us.
Many rides later, we decided to grab some snacks. "What do I want? Pretzels. Definitely soft pretzels man," I say, trying to impersonate Dallas. Just as our order was ready, my phone rang. "Astra? Is that you?" a familiar voice tuned. "Yes, is this Sodapop Curtis?" I answered. "Mhmm sure is! Are you coming back soon? You've been with Lacey for hardly three days!" I shrug, even though he can't see me through the phone. If only that were invented.
"Soda, I don't know. We just got to Six Flags! I'll see you later tonight, we're coming to see the gang," I say, and hang up. I could just tell that Sodapop was fuming, and it was all because he missed me! I can't believe it, he actually cares. Lacey grabbed my hand and took us to the Ferris wheel. They were assigning two people per cart, and we were assigned number eight. We heard some girl complaining to her boyfriend, "Babe, I wanted number eight! Go tell them to move behind us!" The boyfriend scoffed, "Kristi, you can't get everything you want. And you know I'm not like that anymore." I don't quite know what he meant by, "not like that anymore", but I can imagine a couple of things. "Ugh, why did I even like you? What are you good for?" the girl, Kristi, said. "That's it, Kristi. I'm out," the boyfriend said.
Twilight settled quickly, and we soon realized we were lost. The only person that I could rely on was Darry. The one who saw Sodapop and I make up. And the one who thought I was Soda's rebound girl. I punched in the numbers, that I didn't know too, too well. "Hello?" came a voice from the other side of the phone. "Hey, is this Darrel Curtis? It's Astra Sanders," I whisper, not wanting the rest of the crowd to know who I am. "Oh, hey Astra. Do you need anything?" Darry asked. "Yes, uh. Lacey and I are lost in Six Flags. We need you to come to get us." I murmur. "Oh, I'll be right there," he replies, then the line goes silent. How are we going to get out of here?
"You two should've gone with Sodapop. You know that there are so many people there this time of year!" Darry scolds. I just sit back on the sofa, nodding my head. Sodapop sits beside me, stroking my shoulder. Darry storms off into the kitchen to read the newspaper. "I guess we should call it a night then, Lacey," I say, disappointed that we have to part ways. She nods, and says, "Dally, can you walk me?" He stands up and smirks. I wonder why he did that.
