AFTERNOON DRUDGERY

Sweat pelts the skin
Like showers in morning gloom.

I dragged my feet to the kitchen
The heat melting my soul
As I start to puddle at the floor.

I rummaged the cupboard for food and
The fridge for quiet resolute
But found none.

I surrendered to the pandering of my warming heart
And slept the afternoon away
Till the evening chill woke me

And welcomed the never setting midnight sun
To a dreamless night and a
Silent conversation
With darkness.
