After waking up next to Liam, showering, and getting some loaner clothes from Leah, Liam decided he would make us breakfast. As I sit and watch him, my first instinct is to go and help him and eventually do it myself, but he pushes me away every single time. So now I'm sitting at the island constantly thinking. My mind never ceases.
"I really need to get some clothes." Crap. I didn't mean to say that aloud.
"Well, you, Leah, and my mom can head into New Haven and get some things." He suggests.
"Your mom can't come, and I can't afford anything yet." I protest, still facepalming myself for speaking.
"No stress. Seriously. Leah has my card, and besides, you need clothes because you can't keep wearing my sisters'. They are too tight."
"Then stop staring, you perv. Fine. I'll go into town, but only with Leah. Knowing your mom, she'll pester me about alpha stuff."
"Alright, I'll let them know."
"You're not coming?"
"I have to head East near Beaumont to scout a new territory to expand slash relocate the pack."
My eyes nearly leave their sockets, "What?! Seriously? You're going to move closer to the humans? Voluntarily?"
"We need more space Kiara, and I think it's time we integrated with humans again. It'll open up so many avenues for everyone. Better schooling and more jobs and activities for everyone. Living so far out in the woods is isolating. It's my duty as Alpha to do what's best for everyone."
I understand where he's coming from. I was trained to do the exact same thing. I was trained to put my pack before myself. But, I don't have my pack. I don't have my parents or my brother. This isn't even my pack, it's Liam's. I've lost everything by thinking of others. Being selfish was the only way I could protect myself. And now, it's the only way I can protect them. Even if this isn't my pack yet, it will be.
"You shouldn't move closer to the humans. And not to such a big city. I mean,is everyone going to move? Or will some stay here? Are you sure this is what your pack needs?" My protest surprises him.
"I thought you've always wanted to get out of the woods? I mean, you would always talk about leaving or moving your pack..." I watch his expression turn from confused to solemn. My face stays stoic. I show no emotion.
"Just trust me. Humans may seem nice, but they're greedy and ignorant. They take and destroy everything they don't like or understand..." I trail off, my facade cracking just hair at the memory trying to rush me. I hold it back, straining the wall I built so high that is now capable of bursting at any moment. Please don't ask me that question.
"When did you go into the city?"
Damn it. I said not to ask me that question. I send a flood of anger and frustration through our link, trying to give him the subtle message of "leave it alone" but he pretends like he felt nothing.
"Why did you ask me that? Just leave it alone. We'll talk about this later." I scold him through the mind link, as Leah, Tatiana, and Xavier enter the packhouse.
"Hey guys." Liam's attitude does a 180, while mine stays the same. I simply wave at his family.
"Oh my gosh! Have you two seen your marks?!" Leah blurts. She must've sensed the tense energy around us. Her energy is similar to Ravyn's. Loud and contagious. But, I do love it.
"They finally showed up?" I try to contain my excitement, but to no avail. I turn to Liam hoping he's as excited as I am, momentarily forgetting about the little disagreement we both had a few moments ago.
