My eyes peel open at the sound of voices echoing within the walls.

"Is she fully secured?"

"Yes, Alpha. She should be waking up now."

I try to reach up to rub my eyes, but my arms don't budge. I gasp as the mercury digs further into my wrists. Ignoring the pain, I tug at the chains and notice they are hooked into the wall. Great. I readjust my legs to sit criss-cross so I'm no longer sitting on them. Looking around the darkroom, my eyes quickly adjust. Is it still night or day? The door unhinges with a loud squeak as someone enters. The mustiness of this place confuses my nose and the light that slips through momentarily blinds me.

"Damn. That's bright."

"Oh. My bad. I forgot you're more sensitive," His tactless voice is familiar. Finally, readjusting to the brightening darkness, my uncle stands in front of me with a stupid grin plastered on his face.

"Cut the crap," I spit, "Where am I?"

"Surely, you must know how this works. I'm the one who asks questions and makes demands." He laughs.

"I only came willingly to see what it would take for you to leave me alone."

"You mean, leave them alone, right?"

My gaze hardens against his.

"And, I'm more than positive that you already know what I want. You're not stupid, Kiara. You have your father's mind. Always planning out every possibility. The only reason you came willingly was because you knew it was the only way to keep them alive for just a tad longer."

I hate that he's right. I hate that he's getting inside my head. The only other person who knows me that well is Hunter. I need to think of something to give me the upper hand. They know I can kill them with a touch, which is why they are trying to keep me weak on mercury and only binding my hands. Come on! Think, Kiara! Suddenly, an idea pops into my head. But, for this to work, I have to endure what comes next.

"I can't just give it to you. That's not how it works,"

"Really? Then tell me, how does it work?" He prods. I can't tell if he's actually taking the bait or testing the waters. I have to make sure he doesn't see through me.

"And, why would I do that? What could you possibly threaten me with that you haven't already?"

"Hmm," he laughs, "Now that you mention it, I guess I could have my forces advance into your little mate's territory. He's weak right now from the loss of you, and a weak Alpha makes an even weaker pack. We'll take him out like we did your pack. In the middle of the night when they are defenseless and unprepared."

My eyes widen at his threat. I didn't think this plan through. No, wait. I can still salvage this. "Liam will never be weak, so long as he knows I'm alive," I smirk ready to plant my lie.

"And how does he know you're alive right now?"

"Because I told him-"

Henry grabs my face and lifts my head towards his lowering one. His eyes flare as his composure begins to unwind, "How? That's not possible. No wolf can do that. Not even mated Alphas."

He catches himself in his explanation. His disbelief brings a genuine smile to my face. Unable to hold it back any longer. I snicker at him, "I can't believe you bought that. Ha!" he lets go of my face roughly and pushes me to the floor.

"Ugh! You brat!"

I wince as the chains burn my skin while breaking my fall. Now that I've got him hooked, let me reel him in. I can feel Midnight in my head telling me not to do this, but I have to.
