Liam's POV

My feet pace my body around the room on their own accord. My hair gets messier with each run through it. I can't help it though. This mate bond intensifies everything. All I can think about is her. At first, I didn't believe her witch friend when she told me Natasha- or whatever her real name may be- didn't really reject me. It didn't make sense. Nothing does. The witch didn't tell me much else, other than that I have to look out for her and protect her, which is my job as her mate anyways.

My mind continues rambling on, hoping to distract myself from the gnawing worry eating away at my patience.

I continue pacing for what seems like hours. Unable to endure this torture anymore, I leave her room and head to my office. Working will take my mind off of her. It has to.

"That'll never work. She's our mate. You can't just boot her from your head."

"That's what she did to us, Ace. So, I'm sure I can find a way to do it too. Now leave me alone."

"We should go see if she's ok." Ace suggests.

"We were just there. She's still recovering from whatever that sicko gave her. I'm sure she's fine."

"Why'd he give her mercury? And it almost seemed like they knew each other...-"

"I don't know Ace! I don't know anything about her or even who she is! I just...," My inner voice begins to lower, "I just don't know."

My head fills with silence. Sensing my anger, Ace disappears, not wanting to add more fuel to our fire. I'm not the only hot head around here.

"Alpha, it seems the young woman you brought in has taken her leave." The doctor's voice is low and fearful. He has every right to be.

"WHAT?!" I yell aloud. I mind link the doctor back, "How could you let her escape? Was she even fully healed?" I don't give him the chance to answer as I calmly tell him, "You know what? Forget it. I will find her." I cut the link off and create a new one.

"Laurens, Stevens. I need you and a few others to help me find my mate. She's a rogue so be careful. She's a large dirty brown wolf. About the same size as me. She has long brown hair and brown eyes and was last wearing a plain black t-shirt and a pair of light-blue shorts. I'll meet you outside."

They reply with a 'Yes, Alpha." and head out. I take the steps two at a time as I rush to the back door. I take off running forward, my speed increasing with each step, I then jump and land on all four paws. I shake my fur and tilt my head up to howl, letting the others know I've joined the search. My howl is returned, letting me know we are good to go.

"Travel in groups of 2 or more. And don't harm her."

I lift my muzzle into the air and take a deep sniff. Nothing. I begin traveling South. Unsure of where I'm going, I make sure to create land points, so I won't get lost on the way back.

An unusual smell infiltrates my senses. It puts me on overdrive. It's her. Her scent of strawberries and vanilla is distinctive and nothing like I've ever smelt before. I let my wolf take over to follow her. His sense of smell is much stronger than mine in wolf form.

"Now you want to talk to me." His tone is not the friendliest to say the least.

"Can you just follow her, please. A good distance away so she can't smell us." I plead.

"I'm sure she smelt us a while ago. You made that clear when you went off rubbing on every tree you passed." He accuses.

"Well, how else am I supposed to not get lost?" I defend.

"Whatever. I'll help you, but I'm still mad at you." I thank him and let him lead the way for about 10 minutes before I take control once more.

In the distance, I watch as her tail disappears, meaning she has probably shifted. I follow suit and tail behind her.

A rustling bush grabs my attention. I turn to see what the commotion was but find myself staring at a witch. Before I can contact my pack, I feel my connection become lost. I show no emotion as fear slowly crawls up my spine.

"What are you doing on my territory? Witches aren't allowed here," My voice booms with power and authority, despite my growing concerns.

"I'm allowed wherever. And besides, this isn't your territory," She smirks as she snaps her fingers.

The air suddenly seems to begin leaving my lungs. My hands immediately go to my throat, but that does nothing. I'm not choking, I'm suffocating. I try to gasp for air, but nothing comes. My head begins feeling light. I never thought this was how I would go out.

"That's enough, Candy. Let him go."

The air rushes back into me. I cough vigorously at the overwhelming amount of air. My body slowly returns to normal as it's beginning to function properly once again.

"I thought I told you that I need him alive."

Still weak and a bit slow from the lack of oxygen, my body doesn't have enough time to react as a sharp pain echoes throughout my head, creating a starry vision that's soon followed by darkness.

Kiara's POV

Why can't he just leave me alone? That's all I want. For everyone to leave me alone. I'm better off that way. Being alone allows me to protect those around me, but I can't do that when he won't leave me alone. Waking up in a tight, small, overly painted white-walled room, a thousand thoughts swirled through my head. Overwhelmed by it all, I decided to escape. I mean with no one watching me, it was pretty easy. Although I did cut my leg on some glass. Not the smartest move on my part, but I still got out and far.

I decided to head back to my old territory knowing no one would go near it. I head to one of my hideouts, the Blackmoon waterfall.

As I run there, both Midnight and I pick up a distinct and potent smell of pine and sandalwood. Liam. I shake him from my thoughts, but I just can't seem to get rid of him. I don't know what it is about him that I'm so attracted to. All I know is that a mate bond can't be this strong. I barely know him, yet I feel as though we've known each other for ages.

Pulling out of my thoughts, I continue forward. If he wants to follow me, he can. But it doesn't mean he'll get any answers. It's best this way. It'll keep him safe, and his pack.

Finally arriving at the waterfall, I shift and carefully walk inside. The smell of freshwater overpowers everything.

"Well, well, well. We meet again, Kiara." Hunter smirks as he slowly, but surely walks into my territory. I release a warning growl and bare my canines. I can feel my Alpha power coming out, and can't stop my eyes from glowing a dull red, not showing my true power.

"Now that's not a nice way to treat a guest. Especially one who doesn't even know who you really are." Hunter snaps and I watch as his goons drag somebody inside my cave. My canines retract and my eyes dull to their normal color as I see a familiar face. One I wish I would never have to see in this predicament.

"Liam?" Disbelief is the only word I can think of to describe how I feel. I watch in suspense waiting for some sort of reaction from him.

All I get is his eyes widened in fear as he looks at me and Hunter. Midnight whimpers with sadness and then quickly disappears into my head. I look to Liam and see his fear is gone and replaced by curiosity, anger, and desire.

"Who exactly are you?"
