Amethysts POV
“Come on sweetie wake up,” Mum whispers, shaking my shoulder. I slip and hit my head on the door of the car.
“What!? Huh? Are we there yet?” It had been a long drive, almost 1 hour if I’m right, I think to myself as I glance quickly down at the clock in the centre console. 10:00am. Hmmm. I don’t know how or even when I fell asleep I just remember staying up way to late last night because I was talking with my friend Ella for about 4 hours. Stupid. I need all the energy I can get. After all today is going to be a big day and I have to make the right impression.
“No not quite,” Mum answers, breaking my trail of thought, “but I don’t see why you couldn’t just drive yourself! You’re 17 now! Come on!”
“Mum! I told you! My car wouldn’t start! I tried!” I exclaimed, remembering back to that very morning where I was almost in tears after my car (which is normally super trustworthy I might add) didn’t start.
“Whatever,” She replied. Mum and I have that sort of relationship. Ever since my Dad disappeared she has been like my best friend and has been playing the roles of both the parents. I can tell her almost anything.“Willows Creek Equestrian Centre. Here it is,” Mum says as she reads a sign hanging on a post.
I hear the ticking of the indicators followed by the green flashing light and stare out the window as we take a right turn and start down the driveway to the new barn.
Stone bricks cascaded up around the gate creating a wall and entrance that can only be described as beautiful. The driveway seemed to stretch for miles, lined closely by thick, green, trees that allowed only flickers of light to enter down through the canopy. Black post and rail fence raced along side the car, housing what could only be horses. And tonns of them. Every now and then through a gap in the dense line of trees you would see one grazing on the bright green grass. Bays and Greys. Chestnuts and Buckskins. Every colour, shape and size imaginable.“Wow…” I sigh as I take everything in.
“Wow indeed,” Mum agrees.
