Chapter 7
Amethysts POV

Jason began leading me out of the barn and towards the paddocks down the other end of the complex.
“Isn’t Acorn in a stall?” I ask, looking over at Jason inquiringly. He snorts.
“Acorn can’t be caught. Can barely be handled and hasn’t been ridden in over a year,” he replies. “So I have no idea how you ended up paired with him.”
I look over at him stunned and gulp down the nervousness that had been growing inside me ever since he began explaining him.
“Well yea. I guess so. My parents were really into horses before, well,” I stop not wanting to give away too much. Before he can question me or prompt me further I continue. “Wait so Acorn hasn’t been ridden in ages? Why not? His name is so sweet?”
Jason snorts again. “Names don’t explain temperament. He’s a feisty one that one so don’t let your assumptions based on a name get the better of you.”
Before I can ask further questions Jason interrupts, “Speak of the devil. There he is there. Over there? In the far corner,” he says pointing at what appears to be a small Flaxen Chestnut pony grazing under the shade of a large tree.
“Should I go catch him?” I ask indicating to the halter I have in my hand.
“Sure if you can,” Jason adds, “I’ll help you.”
We open the gate. Well I do anyway. Jason just jumps right over the white post and rail fence landing cat like and easily on the other side.
“There’s a gate here you know,” I tease smiling over at him as I lock the gate behind me.
“Yeah I know. But that’s faster,” he replies, laughing.
We begin to walk in the direction of the tree that shelters Acorn, brushing through the long green grass.
“Its ironic really,” I say turning to Jason.
“What is?”
“Well we are technically going to get an Acorn that is beneath an oak tree.” I respond . He laughs even at this stupid, dumb joke. And although it wasn’t funny at all, I join in.
