Chapter 13
Makaylas POVAuthors Note:
Ooohh! New characters and New POVS! exciting!
Anyways... enjoy!I look around and see that Matt leaning against the arena railing. I un-tuck my hair from behind my ear and start walking to him he's so perfect, his bluey green eyes and blonde hair, his smile. He's so sweet.
“Hey” I say trying to talk over the crowd. Where did the crowd appear from anyway?
“Hey, the new girl's jumping Acorn, isn't she amazing?...and hot” Dammit I’ve totally been friend zoned. I glance over to notice her $2000 long boots, chocolate hair and her $300 white jodhpurs and stunning Bright Blue Polo top. Great, another stunning, stuck up rich kid to hate. I don't care about how everyone likes the snobby rich kids, they always do, but Matt liked her... he seemed to REALLY like her.I start storming off toward the paddocks and stop at the third gate along. I sit on the floor and tears begin to pass down my cheeks.
'He'll never know me as more than a friend, ever. He's so oblivious to reality, if he'd give me a chance...' I feel a warm breath through my waist length, auburn hair. Artemis. He was a pure black 17hh Clydesdale cross who was like a giant pussycat. I was glad to see him. I stood up and hugged his face over the fence, stroking his white blaze.
“At least you understand.” I whisper, the words barely leaving my lips.“Maekayla? Are you ok?” Crap, Jason.
“It's nothing.” No way my walls are coming down and I must look a state.
“Yes, it is.” He looked actually concerned for me.
“Ok well, you know Matt and how I have a tiny crush on him?”
“Tiny? Really. MAJOR understatement.” He jokes, it's true though.
“Ok anyway, he was looking at that new rider that came and thought she was 'amazing and hot' to quote him exactly so I thought I’d better hang out with a less oblivious guy.”
“What... Me... I'm flattered” He obviously knew I’d meant Artemis he was just messing with me.
“And don't worry Matt will figure out you're the right girl.” He wrapped his arms around me pulling me into a hug. In this moment I promise myself to never push away friends like him, ever.I slowly make my way back to the arena, as much as I resent her I have to un-tack Acorn.
“Makayla! Where'd you go?” it was Matt standing at the entrance to the arena, but he had company and it wasn't only Acorn.
“Hey.” I say back slightly annoyed.
“Maekayla this is the new girl,” he says.
“Hi, I’m Amethyst Lawrence.” She reached out to shake my hand but I shifted my arm beginning to tie my hair into a ponytail. I stay silent, refusing to say anything.
“This is Makayla Rose Asbury.” Matt jumped in.
“I can't believe you just said my full name.” I hate my last name and don't like people knowing it. The less people know, the better.
“Why are you acting so bitter today? You’re never like this.” Matt thought I was a mean, bitchy, bitter, person? I feel like breaking down into tears.
“Hey guys.” Jason was walking down the pathway leading to the arena. I couldn’t hold it together much longer so I did the only thing I felt I could do. I ran.
I ran past him only to hear Jason say from behind.
“What did you do now Matt?!” But I don't turn back, not until I'm out of sight and Matt grabs me by the arm, spinning me to face him. He'd followed me?“Look Makayla, I didn't mean that you were what I said but you've been acting different today. What's up?”
“As if you care your too busy looking at the new girl to care.” I actually just said that? Those words left my mouth.
“Of course I care! Are you Jealous or something?!”
“No,” I scowl, hoping he didn’t pick up on the sarcasm.
“Plus, she could never replace you. You’re my rock. You’re my only friend that understands me.” His eyes twinkled at me like a thousand stars.
The word 'friend' was shoved in there but i'll take any reassurance I can get.
“Love you” I say, but the words got muffled in his shirt as I hugged him tight. I wish this moment would never end.
