Chapter 6- The Barn
Amethysts POV

“Well here we are,” Jason says stopping in front of a building which could only be the barn.  “Its nice isn’t it.
‘Nice,’ doesn’t even start to cover it. Not one bit.
“I mean I saw some pictures online, but they never showed anything like this!” I whisper in awe as I look up at the massive building in front of me.
“Well it takes some time to get used to it,” Jason states as if it is the perfect explanation.
It was certainly not your average red, farm barn. No. This was a work of art! Treated timber created the walls and was accented with the same white stone blocks that built the gate. The roof was vaulted creating what could only be a loft up in the roof space. White trims lined the outside windows and doors to each stable while black bars created the inside of the stalls.
Natural light flooded in through the open barn doors proving that the dangling ceiling lights didn’t need to be in use. The concrete floor was lined with a black rubber matt that matched the stall doors perfectly.
It was beautiful. Flawless even.
I stood, staring, mouth agape as I watched the splendour unfold in front of me. People walked from all directions. Heading into stalls. Heading out. Carrying saddles and bridles and pieces of tack that I had never even seen before.  The clip clop of the horses’ hooves on the rubber mat sounded like music to my ears.
Jason chuckled.
“Close your mouth sweetheart, or you’ll catch flies,” he said giving my chin a little tap. I did as he said, closing my mouth shut with a resounding chomp. He chuckled again.
“Come on,” he said grabbing my arm and dragging me onwards.
“There are 40 stalls all together. This side,” he said indicating to the left of the barn, “are for the school horses, while all the others on the right are for the boarders.”
I looked around sure there looked like there could be 40 stalls but?
As if sensing my confusion Jason added with a smile, “the rest of the stalls are around the corner.”
I stand there for a moment dumbfound. Wow.
“And if you’ll come this way,” Jason continues as he heads of towards the end of the barn and takes a left turn. “This is the tack room. It’s all colour coordinated and labelled with the horses name or in some of the boarders case, their name.”

Although I thought it would be hard to match the splendour of the barn and stalls the tack room didn’t fall short. It was massive! The saddles were all on racks against the one side of the wall, with golden name plates showing who it belonged to. And the bridles and martingales alike where on the other. A long bench lay on the far side of the room, sheltering the cubby holes that lay beneath. Once again each had a name plate on them. This time with a riders name.
“Each rider gets their own cubby hole and you can keep your helmets and gloves and whatever else in there. This one’s yours over here,” he said pointing to one on the far left side of the shelf. I walked over, crouched down and placed my bag inside. I was on the end of the shelf so I was only next to one person. Maekayla Rose Ausbury. Hmmm.
“Nice name,” I thought to myself as I made sure everything was in the box as it should be. I ran my hand over my gold name tag before standing up in protest.
“They spelt my name wrong!” I pouted. Jason tried to supress a laugh.
“Well how is it meant to be spelt then, Princess?” He asked, placing stress on the final word.
“Don’t call me that,” I snapped. “They spelt it Ameythist. Like A-M-E-Y-T-H-I-S-T. Which is like really weird. It’s supposed to be spelt, A-M-E-T-H-Y-S-T,” I stated as if it was an obvious fact.
“Well sorry bout that,” he laughed. “I guess we just don’t get many people with the name Amethyst come through here.”
I stood, glaring at him with my arms crossed. Sass being thrown to every corner of the room. He returned the gaze with puppy dog eyes before we both collapsed into a fit of laughter.
Jason recovered first and turned to leave, “Come on. Acorns tack is just over here,” he said handing me a royal blue halter and matching lead rope.
