Chapter 8
Amethysts POV
“Ok, so you go that side and try and block him and then we will slowly close in so that he can’t get out ok?” Jason asks as he lays out his plan for catch the pony.
“Couldn’t I just try to catch him normally first? I don’t really want to force him.”
“Trust me Amethyst this is the ONLY way to catch him.”
Glumly I nod my understanding and move to my position. We begin to close in around the pony. We are about 5 metres away before his head shoots up as if finally noticing that we are here. He pins his ears back and begins to move away.
“Quickly Amethyst,” Jason calls before darting at the pony, trying to grab a chunk of his mane. The pony turns at the last minute and lands a good kick to Jasons thigh.
“Ouch!” Jason shouts at the disappearing image of Acorn galloping across to the other side of the paddock.
“Are you ok?” I laugh offering out my hand to help Jason up from the ground.
“Yep I’m fine,” he grumbles before adding, “See I told you. Acorn is nothing but trouble.”
“Ok fine. Let me try. Just once my way ok?” I ask.
“Fine. Just be…” But before he can finish I’m already halfway across the paddock.I drop the halter to the ground keeping a mental note on where it is before slowly approaching Acorn, who I noticed he keeps a waring eye on me.
“Hey Boy,” I coo, stretching out my hand towards him. He snorts and stamps his foot as if to tell me to go away.
“Aww its ok. Just don’t make this any harder than it needs to be,” I say as I edge my way over to him closing the gap between us. I talk reassuring words hoping that maybe he’ll stand still long enough for me to reach out and…
“There!” I say as I pat his little neck. From a distance he looks about 13hands but up close I can tell he is about 14.2.
“Good Boy!” I call rubbing his small blaze with my hand. “See it’s not that bad!”
He snorts again, almost seeming to communicate back to me, “That’s what you think.”
I laugh a little before asking him to come with me back to where I left the halter. He obliges and follows willingly. I bend down to pick up the halter from the ground before…
Donk!
I feel a shove from behind and feel myself falling into the long, cushy grass.
“Ouch! Acorn!” I shout. He neighs in return as if he is laughing at me? Then I hear the sound of hoof beats trotting away into the distance accompanied by Jasons laugh.
“Grrrr!” I growl standing to my feet. I turn to see Jason practically rolling in the grass in tears of laughter, but, not sign of Acorn. I hear a snort behind me and turn to meet wide brown eyes staring back into mine.
Are you going to catch me or not? He seems to ask. I slip the blue halter over his head and attach the leadrope.
“So you have a bit of a sense of humour huh?” I say smiling up at him as I pat his neck.Authors Note:
