"Erinne, are you okay with us being in Celesta?" Rae asked for confirmation. "We all know you aren't okay with your dad being a gang leader and-"
"How do you know that, exactly?" I asked.
"We were all forced to wake up at 5 am earlier today. Mr. Layne said that it was an important discussion, but we all just watched him talk about how bad of a father he was for two hours."
"And then when we were dismissed-" Nick laughed, explaining the rest of the story. "Mr. Layne went into his office and started crying. We could hear his sobbing through our walls. It was so hilarious that-"
"That we won't speak of it," Tyler interrupted. "You do remember that talking about Mr. Layne in a disrespectful way can be punishable by death, right Nick?"
"Y-Yes sir- I mean, Ty," Nick corrected, everyone else trying to hide their laughter.
"You didn't answer the question," Julian pointed out with his glasses back on top of his forehead. "Are you okay with it?"
I wasn't sure how to answer, but thankfully we were at the barriers to the north side of Kynsville again.
"Fuck," Julian muttered to himself. "Do I have to do it again?"
"Come on, Jules," Rae said. "You know what you have to do."
Julian sighed before saying, "Whatever."
A guard approached Nick and he rolled down the window.
"ID's and reason for crossing," the guard demanded.
As Nick talked, I faced Ben and asked, "Why do you need to show your ID's?"
"To show that we were at the south side. However, we can't show our real ones. Gang members can't cross the other side of the barrier, it's punishable by death." Ben smirked and looked into my eyes.
"-that is, if you get caught."
"Raeeee-" Nick called from the front. "It's timee-"
Rae nodded to herself and looked out the back window.
