Mason paced the empty hallway while thinking about what he said to Katelynn. He tried to ring her phone but she didn't answer. Can't blame her, he thought. He then called Astrid.

"Astrid! Me and Katelynn had a fight last night and she went out and she.. I said horrible things and I...she won't forgive me, Astrid! I just know it! I just ruined everything! She's gonna leave with Mariah and Mum is gonna get her way and I...She hasn't come home yet! I thought she just went out to the garden but she's not home!"

"What?!" Mason pulled his hair as the tears rushed down his face.

"What if something happened to her? I was gonna apologise but I couldn't find her."

"She came to my place at three and said she had to take Mariah to school. She told me briefly what happened and she left. It's almost ten right now."

"Oh my God! What do I do? If anything happens then it's my fault. I'll call the hospitals and see if she got admitted there and-"

"Wait, Katelynn is calling. Hang on." Astrid answered the call.

"Katelynn-"

"No. Sorry. This is Dr. Newon. I have been treating Katelynn for the last three hours and she has just woken up. She asked me to call you."

"Oh...I'll be there right away!" Astrid hung up the phone and called Mason back. "She was admitted in three hours ago and just woke up. Bring Mariah to my house and I'll leave the kids with Chris and we'll go together."

Mason rushed out the house and drove to Astrid's house. Arriving at the hospital, Mason rushed into Katelynn's ward and stopped at the door.

"Mason? Are you not gonna go in?"

"She's gonna hate me...I shouldn't have called her all of those names. I'm the disgusting one. What did I do?!"

"She's not gonna hate you. Come on!" Astrid dragged Mason in until they were at her bed.

"Mason..." Katelynn whispered when she looked up. "I need you to go..."

"Katelynn...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I was just angry. I didn't even know what I was saying-"

"I'm sorry!" she cried. Mason moved to the side of her bed and hugged her.

"You didn't do anything wrong. Nothing. I'll make it up to you. I promise. Don't you ever scare me like that again. You went missing for seven hours. I was worried sick. I just...I'm sorry. I love you. I love you so much."

"Mrs Kemble, we are here to finally see your baby!" a nurse cheered.

"You're pregnant?!"

"I tried to tell you but you didn't want to listen...I just...I didn't think you wanted it..."

"Katy, why would think like that? You know all I ever wanted to do was expand the family. I love you so much."

"Sorry...I love you too." Katelynn wiped the tears from her face before lying down. "Now, I wanna see my baby!"

Astrid walked out with a grin on her face and met her mother who was searching for Mason.

"Where is he? Is Mason okay?"

"He's feeling better now. Just look at how happy he is," she said as she pointed at Mason smiling at the screen. "Mum, if this is about Mason's dad..."

"I'm sorry. It's just that he messed with me and all his family ganged up on me and beat me and I...I guess I just turned it around. I...Do you think she'll let me see her?"

"She's a good person, Mum. Honestly, this woman has fought cancer and won. And not to be mean, but she was able to tolerate you for a year. Mum, Mason loves her. Just let him be happy, okay?"

Mason stroked Katelynn's cheek and smiled. "You are really stupid, you know that? How did you manage to roll down the hill and knock yourself out?"

"Talent," she whispered. She held onto his left hand. "I love you, Mason."

"And I love you. God must love me for giving me so many chances with you."

"Or he must really hate you. I'm a nightmare to deal with."

"Yeah, you really are. Go to sleep." Katelynn pulled their entwined hands to her lips and closed her eyes. Astrid walked over.

"How far is she?" she whispered.

"Three months. Almost four."

"She just had her period last month. Is that possible?"

"Doctor said it happens. Can you tell Mum to go outside. I do know she is behind me." Mason leaned down and kissed Katelynn's temple. "I'll make it up to you, I promise," he whispered quietly, but everyone still heard him. "I'll make you happy one day. I'll make you happy."

"Mason...Look, I wanna talk to her-"

"That's the thing, Mum. She will forgive you as easily as she forgives me but I'm not gonna let her talk to you. I need you to leave, Mum. You're the reason why she's here. You're the reason why our relationship is on thin thread."

"Mason...You shouldn't talk to your mum like that," Katelynn whispered. Mason stood up and harshly let go of Katelynn's hand.

"But it's okay for you to call her a bitch? You have got to be kidding me. Here I was just trying to look out for you and-" Mason stopped when he felt Katelynn's hand on his tensed arm.

"Hey, calm down. I said I was sorry. She's your mum, Mason. I know I was wrong talking about her like that...I'm sorry."

"Sorry. I didn't mean to get angry at you. I just...I don't want to keep hurting you, Katy."

"Just let your mum talk, okay?" Mason held onto Katelynn's as he sat down. She let go and sat up. "Sorry," she whispered as she held his hand again. Mason's mum came into view as she stood at the foot of the bed.

"I...Look, I'm really sorry for everything I called you over the year. I...I wanna start again, okay? I'll let you recover and think about this...I just hope we can start again. I would really love to get to know you and Mariah."

Mason's mother walked away. Katelynn smiled at Mason before leaning up and giving him a kiss.

"I love you, Mason. I know you're trying. Thank you."

"I'll try harder, I promise and-" Mason stopped when Katelynn screamed in pain. She clutched onto her stomach and screamed again. Mason saw the red circle spreading. "Doctor! We need a doctor!"
